**David Michaels Reflects on Michael J. Fox’s Early Career in Game Show History**

During his conversation with Clarke, he reminisced about his early interactions with the publicists responsible for bringing celebrity guests to the show. “The publicist would call me because I would basically book the celebrities with Ann Marie, and then we would bring them in and play the game with them,” he explained.

One particular publicist stood out to Michaels, the late Nanci Ryder. Recognised as one of Hollywood’s most trusted figures, Ryder had a remarkable career but sadly passed away last year after battling ALS. Michaels vividly recalled the moment Ryder reached out to him with a proposition. “She said, ‘I need you to take a chance and just trust me, because I’m going to send you somebody who is going to become a huge star and you’re going to have him first.’”

Initially hesitant but intrigued, Michaels took the plunge. “I’m just thinking in my head, ‘Well, fine, if he’s good and all that, but I’m going to have to convince Bob [Stewart] of this.'” Ryder eventually introduced Michaels to a young Michael J. Fox, who would go on to become a household name.

In 1984, Fox made several appearances on the game show *$25,000 Pyramid*, during a time when he was just starting to gain traction in Hollywood with his role in the hit sitcom *Family Ties*. “He only did the show a couple of times at the beginning, but he was amazing. He was an amazing player,” Michaels reminisced, reflecting on Fox’s charm and talent. He added, “We stayed in touch a lot through those years. I have a picture of the first time he was on the show, him and me, and we look like children.”

Michaels chuckled as he recalled the initial scepticism that surrounded Fox’s involvement. “To think that I had to be talked into bringing him in! I’m glad I listened to her,” he remarked, underscoring the significance of trusting those in the industry who have a deep understanding of talent.
