The reality dating series “Love Is Blind” on Netflix has captivated audiences around the globe with its unique premise: singles become engaged without ever laying eyes on each other prior to the proposal. As the show progresses, these couples emerge from their individual pods, enter the chaotic real world, and ultimately face the moment of truth: whether to affirm their commitment by marrying in front of family and friends.

Notably, one significant stress factor often associated with weddings — the budget — is alleviated as Netflix takes on the costs for each couple’s nuptials, ensuring a stunning ceremony. However, couples do have a financial responsibility when it comes to certain personalised elements of their big day.
According to insiders, while Netflix finances the essential components of the wedding, including venue, floral arrangements, cake, and other event particulars, couples are expected to pay for unique touches that reflect their personalities. “We follow all couples to their weddings; the team is prepared for five or six, and in season 10, for seven,” someone close to the production shared with PEOPLE.
This arrangement means that participants can focus on building emotional connections without the added burden of covering the overall costs of their wedding. Owner Angela Norman of White Willow Meadows in Columbus, Ohio, the venue for the tenth season’s weddings, expressed her excitement at participating in the beloved series. Having been a fan of the show for years, Norman described the experience as a “labour of love,” highlighting the effort and dedication involved in orchestrating each ceremony.
The wedding planner responsible for bringing the couples’ visions to life, Slomique Hawrylo, operates in a rather unique manner. Although she crafts bespoke weddings reminiscent of those she would design for celebrity clients, Hawrylo does so without prior interaction with the couples. Following their intimate gatherings in the pods, couples go on honeymoons and fill out detailed questionnaires to guide her in making their wedding dreams a reality.
In the absence of in-person meetings, Hawrylo relies on insights from participants’ social media profiles and Pinterest boards to capture their individual styles and preferences. She acknowledged, “Just know that as I’m designing these weddings, I am also blind in a sense.” This intriguing approach allows her to channel the essence of each couple, ensuring their ceremony feels distinctly personal.
To achieve breathtaking results, Hawrylo and her team work against the clock. With up to five weddings occurring on consecutive days, financial and logistical constraints must be adeptly managed. In previous seasons, floral designs alone have commanded budgets ranging between £40,000 to £48,000 for all weddings combined, while venue considerations have significantly affected the budget as well.
Netflix also takes on expenses related to attire, covering everything from bridal gowns and tuxedos to dresses for the bridal party. Couples are permitted to invite approximately 80 to 100 guests, though there is flexibility for additional invites based on venue capacity, ensuring that cherished loved ones can be part of their special day.
While the overarching costs are largely covered, specific details remain the couples’ responsibility. For instance, past cast members have chosen to pay for specialised nail artists, unique photography, or personalised monogramming, often because these requests are more time-sensitive and complicated than what is typically arranged by the production team. “It’s very important to me that each wedding has its own voice,” Hawrylo asserted, reiterating her commitment to achieving the couple’s vision.
However, the series does come with its uncertainties. Not all couples arrive at the altar, and some may even separate before the wedding day. Planning for these unpredictable outcomes presents challenges for Hawrylo. “Each ceremony must be beautiful, but receptions can sometimes be a gamble,” she explained.
Her experiences have proven bittersweet; on occasions when couples call off their weddings, she must adapt venue logistics quickly and allow the event to unfold in fluidity, observing how attendees react when the couple no longer moves forward together. Despite the emotional investment in each wedding, Hawrylo sees value in taking these risks. “If they last forever, this is the only wedding they’re going to have,” she reflected, underscoring the weight of both joy and responsibility she feels in her role.
As “Love Is Blind” continues to thrill viewers with its unconventional take on love and marriage, the insights into its wedding planning shed light on the complexities behind the scenes. With Netflix’s financial backing, couples can focus on what truly matters — forging meaningful connections — while still having the opportunity to showcase their individuality through those cherished personalised details.
