A 51-year-old man from Florida, Theodore S. Troth, has been found deceased after going missing during a hiking trip in the Adirondack Mountains of New York. His body was discovered at the south end of Oxshoe Pond following a coordinated search operation by local authorities.

Troth, who resided in The Villages, Florida, had rented a cabin at Rowe’s Adirondack Cabins in the town of Schroon on January 25. According to reports from the New York State Police, he last left the cabin to hike the Crane Pond Trail on February 19. After failing to check out as scheduled on February 24, the owner of the cabin alerted authorities when they discovered Troth was not present.
Concerns grew when the cabin owner realised Troth had not returned, leading them to contact the police around 12:30 p.m. local time that Saturday. The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, alongside the State Police and Forest Rangers, promptly launched a search operation. This multifaceted effort included the deployment of K-9 units, unmanned aerial systems (UAS), as well as snowmobiles traversing the rugged terrain.
Authorities conducted extensive searches throughout the area, demonstrating a commitment to locating Troth. Tragically, around 6:24 p.m. on the same day, forest rangers located his body. Following the discovery, the Essex County Coroner’s Office responded to the scene and subsequently transported Troth’s body to Glens Falls Hospital for an autopsy.
