A playpen product sold on Amazon has been recalled by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) due to a severe risk of suffocation for babies. The item, sold by Anna Queen, poses a danger as infants can become trapped under the mattress or between the playpen’s side and the mattress. This poses a significant risk of serious injury or even death, the CPSC warned. The agency highlighted that as of November 20, there have been no reported incidents or injuries linked to the playpen.

The CPSC emphasised that the playpen breaches the mandatory standard for such products, putting infants at risk of deadly suffocation. The affected product, sold by Anna Queen on Amazon, was on sale from March and retailed between $100 and $110. Manufactured in China, approximately 70 units of the playpen have been identified as affected by the recall. The playpen features black fabric sides with grey mesh panels, complemented by white fabric covering the top rails with a multi-coloured print showcasing bear faces, paws, and the word ‘bear’. The mattress also sports the same bear print, with details such as ‘Model: P700’ and ‘Production Date: 202503’ indicated on the packaging and a removable tag.
In response to the recall, consumers who purchased the playpen are advised to discontinue use immediately and contact Anna Queen for a refund. To qualify for a full refund, individuals are required to dismantle the fabric cover, cut up both the cover and the mattress pad, and provide a photo of the dismantled playpen to the company. Following this, they can dispose of the playpen appropriately. The CPSC outlined that a playpen is defined as an enclosed structure with a floor and mesh or fabric sides, facilitating sleeping and playing for children under 35 inches in height who cannot climb out.
The safety standards for a playpen dictate specific requirements such as side height, deflection, and strength, as well as floor and fabric strength. The playpen must adhere to mesh and fabric material standards to ensure proper functionality and safety for children. Commenting on the recall, the CPSC highlighted the importance of adhering to safety regulations in manufacturing such products to prevent potential hazards to infants and toddlers.
The CPSC has been actively monitoring and issuing recalls to ensure the safety of consumer products, especially those intended for babies and children. The recall of the playpen sold on Amazon serves as a reminder for parents and caregivers to be vigilant about the safety of products used by infants and to promptly respond to any recalls or safety alerts issued by regulatory agencies. It is essential to prioritize the well-being and safety of children when selecting and using products in their everyday lives.
