First responders were alerted to the scene on Sunday, 1 November, at approximately 9:20 am. They found a vehicle that had apparently left the roadway and collided with a guardrail on Casper Mountain Road. Upon their arrival, they confirmed the presence of a single occupant, later identified as Gunter, who was pronounced dead at the scene. The Casper Police Department has stated that, as of now, there is no indication of foul play or involvement by another individual.

Following Gunter’s disappearance, her family became increasingly anxious. Her sister, Kayla Gunter, stated that she last communicated with Kandice on the morning prior to her going missing. Kandice had recently relocated from Nevada to Casper in an effort to be closer to her two young children, aged nine and six. According to Kayla, the transition seemed positive, making the sudden lack of communication all the more alarming.
“I started freaking out when I found out she didn’t pick up her kids,” Kayla recalled. “It’s completely out of character for her not to show up.” Concern quickly escalated, and the family initiated a search for Kandice, fearing for her well-being.
Described as a loving and kind-hearted individual, Gunter’s sudden passing has left her family and community in shock. Her sister expressed her heartache, stating, “She was such a loving, kindhearted person who had such a good head on her shoulders. It’s not fair, and we will get justice for her.” The emotional toll of this tragedy has reverberated throughout the local community, further deepening the sense of loss.
Police had identified Gunter as a White woman with black hair and blue eyes and reported her driving a grey 2016 GMC Canyon pickup with temporary Wyoming registration. The last known location of her cellphone was detected on Highway 387 at approximately 12:30 pm on Friday, two days after she was reported missing.
In light of this tragic event, the Casper Police Department has extended their condolences to Gunter’s family, friends, and everyone impacted by her death. The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash is still active, as authorities aim to gather more information.
The Natrona County Coroner’s Office has yet to release further details regarding the investigation, as questions linger about the circumstances leading to Gunter’s death. As the inquiry continues, the family is left grappling with their grief and the sudden loss of a vibrant and cherished member.
This incident highlights not only the tragic circumstances of a young mother’s death but also raises awareness of the importance of community support during such distressing times. As those who knew Gunter come together to honour her memory, it is evident that she touched the lives of many during her time in Casper.
