A serious incident involving a public bus occurred on Friday morning, October 30, in Bad Oldesloe, Germany, leaving several individuals injured and raising concerns among local authorities. The accident unfolded at approximately 7:20 AM local time with more than 30 passengers on board. Initial reports indicate that the bus struck a stationary vehicle at the intersection of Bangert Street. Following this impact, the bus veered off course, entered an oncoming lane, and collided with another car before ultimately crashing into the residential building after driving over a roundabout.
Emergency services, including the Federal Agency for Technical Relief (THW), the Bad Oldesloe Volunteer Fire Department (BOVFD), and local paramedics, promptly arrived at the scene to assist those affected. The front of the bus was found wedged into the side of the apartment complex, and images from the scene depicted fire trucks and police cars surrounding the area.

Ove Petersen, an official from THW, reported that the bus made contact with a supporting beam of two windows on the building, causing significant damage. “A support column between the windows was severely damaged, or rather, completely destroyed,” he stated.
Reports of the number of injured have varied, initially suggesting that 12 individuals were hurt in the incident. However, updated figures indicate that at least 20 people incurred injuries, with a portion of these cases considered critical. Among the injured were several schoolchildren, highlighting the serious implications of the crash.

The bus driver, whose identity has been withheld, was trapped within the vehicle following the collision and required technical rescue equipment to be freed. Christian Brand, chief of the BOVFD, expressed concern over the situation, noting the presence of young children on the bus, some of whom were toddlers. “The bus driver was trapped and had to be rescued by our technical equipment,” he explained.
In addition to those on the bus, a resident of the ground floor of the apartment building was also confirmed to have sustained injuries during the crash. The damage to the building was extensive, with both residential apartments and the caretaker’s flat severely impacted. Petersen reported that a heating pipe burst, leading to water damage in both the apartment and the basement.
Efforts to remove the bus from the building were completed around 11:30 AM on the same day, as the emergency teams worked diligently to clear the site and ensure safety for everyone involved. While investigations are ongoing, preliminary inquiries suggest that a physical impairment may have been a contributing factor in the driver’s loss of control, though the official cause of the accident has not yet been determined.
Local authorities, including police, are currently conducting a thorough investigation into the incident, with updates expected as more information comes to light. The community remains shaken by the ordeal, and many are calling for increased safety measures in the area to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
As inquiries continue, the local government has expressed their commitment to supporting the victims and their families during this challenging time. Further statements from the THW, BOVFD, and police are anticipated as the situation develops.
