The innovative “Ring” number showcases the Rockettes in silhouette initially, allowing the shimmering details of their costumes to create a striking visual effect before the full attire is revealed. Julie Branam, the Resident Director and Choreographer of the Christmas Spectacular, emphasised the importance of this moment. She noted that the way the crystals reflect light enhances the overall visual impact of the performance.

The new costumes, crafted by designer Dana Radmacher, are adorned with over 3,600 rhinestones in four different colours and five distinct sizes, highlighting the intricate craftsmanship that goes into each piece. Radmacher expressed her excitement for this season’s creations, stating, “It makes me ecstatic when I can create something that moves well with the dancer and is beautiful to look at.”

Co-designer Miodrag “Mio” Guberinic further elaborated on the creative process behind the accessories. The costume features around 450 individual components, with approximately 1,500 crystals incorporated into each complete accessory set. Guberinic pointed out that although the look must be eye-catching, it also needs to be functional, ensuring that every element complements the movement of the dancers without detracting from the overall presentation.
“This balance requires significant problem-solving and engineering,” Guberinic commented. “Ideally, the intricate details should go unnoticed, allowing the audience to appreciate the beauty of the performance as a whole.” He also highlighted the durability of the costume pieces, which are designed to withstand as many as 17 performances a week, coupled with the demands of rapid costume changes.
Choreographer Branam shared her enthusiasm for specific elements of the new attire, particularly the epaulettes and crystal-adorned shoe spats. She believes these additions add depth to the costumes and enhance the already impressive stage presence of the Rockettes. “The headpiece is gorgeous; there’s nothing not to like about this costume,” she exclaimed. “It really makes the Rockettes look spectacular, and it’s comfortable to wear as well.”
Central to the costume design is the narrative woven together by the music, choreography, and visual elements of the performance. Branam noted that the intention behind the costumes is to showcase the strength, unity, and dynamism of the Rockettes, allowing them to present a fresh and powerful image this holiday season.
The anticipation surrounding the Christmas Spectacular is ever-present, and the Rockettes’ updated look is expected to be one of the highlights of this year’s festive presentation. Tickets for the 2026 season are already on sale, and fans can look forward to an unforgettable experience filled with enchanting performances, dazzling costumes, and the hallmark spirit of the holidays.
As the Rockettes prepare to take the stage once again, audiences young and old will surely revel in the magic of the Christmas Spectacular, an annual tradition that has delighted theatre-goers for generations. The blend of creative artistry, skilled choreography, and stunning visual elements promises to make this year’s show truly special.
