Ben and Erin Napier, the well-known couple behind HGTV’s popular show *Home Town*, recently opened up about their relationship during an episode of the *Talk To Me: The Debra Fileta Podcast*. The pair, who have been married for nearly 15 years, reflected on the nature of their bond, revealing the challenges they face and how they maintain their connection.
Throughout the podcast, titled “Codependent or Connected? Couples Therapy with Ben and Erin Napier,” the couple discussed their unique approach to spending time together. They recounted their history, which began in December 2004 when they first met as students at Jones County Junior College in Mississippi. Since then, Erin expressed that the pair had become “literally inseparable.”

The Napiers shared insights into their work and personal life balance. While many couples might find it challenging to work alongside their spouse, Ben stated that he and Erin could not fathom being apart. “We’ve always worked together and we don’t know how to do it any other way,” he explained. This sentiment echoed through their answers, as they responded to the frequent questions they receive in interviews about how they manage to collaborate so closely without conflict.
The reality is that the Napiers have encountered relationship difficulties on rare occasions. According to Ben, they typically experience problems only when they spend more than two nights apart. “That has only happened a handful of times,” he said, further explaining how brief separations can lead to misunderstandings. “It’s, ‘Hey, why didn’t you answer when I called you?’ It’s that kind of thing.”
Erin reinforced this idea, noting, “We really can’t function separately.” She also highlighted the impact of their parenting dynamic on their relationship, sharing that their daughters, Helen, aged eight, and Mae, aged five, prefer it when both parents are around. “They like it to be both of us all the time,” she added.
The Napiers’ commitment to each other is evident in how they prioritise communication and connection. They approach their partnership with a collaborative attitude, consistently seeking to understand one another even during challenging moments when they are distanced. This deep understanding was developed over their years together, beginning with their college days.
Ben fondly recalled his initial impressions of Erin, describing their first encounter at the student union. “She was walking across, and she had a pixie haircut. I didn’t know what a pixie cut was at the time, but I knew I liked it.” Erin, on her part, regarded Ben as her “celebrity crush.” She observed his popularity, noting his kindness as he would often reach out to others who seemed isolated.
The couple tied the knot in November 2008 at the Paris Yates Chapel on the campus of the University of Mississippi, solidifying their strong bond. Their journey together, marked by a balance of shared work and family life, provides a unique glimpse into how a partnership can thrive under the pressures of everyday life.
With their candid conversation, the Napiers aim to encourage others who may struggle with similar issues of separation. They illustrated through their own experiences that strong connections rely not only on time spent together but also on effective communication and mutual support.
As they continue to navigate the realities of life as both partners and parents, Erin and Ben Napier exemplify resilience and partnership in their marriage. Their insights may serve as a reminder that maintaining a healthy relationship can be achieved through commitment and a willingness to adapt and communicate openly.
