A Baltimore man has been arrested and charged following a shocking incident involving the alleged kidnapping and stabbing of a 15-year-old girl. The suspect, identified as 23-year-old Abubakarr Barrie, reportedly offered the girl an unlicensed ride, commonly referred to as a “hack,” with the promise of taking her to a local take-out restaurant.

On 22 October, the girl accepted the offer from Barrie after being picked up from her sister’s residence. However, as they travelled, it soon became apparent that Barrie was not heading in the promised direction. When the teenager expressed concern about the route, Barrie reportedly displayed aggression, placing her in a headlock and driving her to his home instead.

Once at his residence on Garrison Boulevard in northwest Baltimore, Barrie allegedly dragged the girl to a small basement room, where he ordered her to put down her phone and remain silent. According to court documents, he then proceeded to strip her of her clothes while assaulting her with a knife, inflicting multiple stab wounds across her body.
The victim’s resilience became apparent as she fought back against her attacker. Utilising a fire extinguisher, she struck Barrie and managed to escape from the property, despite being naked and injured. In a desperate bid for safety, she fled to a nearby neighbourhood, where she knocked on doors pleading for assistance.
One resident responded and allowed the girl to utilise their phone to contact her mother and call emergency services. Upon their arrival, the young victim was rushed to a local hospital, where she was treated for five stab wounds and a collapsed lung, as reported by local media outlet WBFF.
In the wake of these harrowing events, Abubakarr Barrie was apprehended by police and is currently facing serious charges. He has been charged with nine counts, including attempted murder in both the first and second degrees, as well as kidnapping and first-degree assault. The conditions surrounding the incident have shocked the local community, raising concerns about safety and the prevalence of unlicensed rideshare services.
Barrie remains in custody awaiting trial, with a hearing scheduled for 25 November. At present, there has been no response from his public defender regarding the case. The ongoing developments highlight the urgent need for discussions surrounding the safety of unregulated transport options and their potential implications for public safety.
This incident is a stark reminder of the risks that can come with accepting rides from unlicensed drivers, particularly for vulnerable individuals such as minors. The alarming situation has prompted calls for increased awareness and measures to protect citizens from similar situations in the future.
Local authorities continue to investigate the matter, and the community remains on heightened alert as they reflect on the impact of this traumatic event. The bravery of the young girl in escaping her ordeal serves as an example of resilience in the face of life-threatening circumstances, and her recovery is now the focus for many in the area.
