Dante Moore, the University of Oregon quarterback, is set to miss the remainder of the season following a concussion sustained in his team’s game against the University of Southern California (USC) Trojans on 26th September. At just 21 years old, Moore has been a promising talent and is highly regarded as a potential first-round pick in the upcoming NFL Draft.
During a press conference held on 26th October, Oregon Ducks head coach Dan Lanning confirmed that although Moore has resumed practice, he is unlikely to return to competitive play this season. “I’m not anticipating him being back, no,” Lanning stated, while also acknowledging Moore’s eagerness to get back on the field. “If it was up to Dante, he would want to be out there playing for the guys. But unfortunately, it’s not really up to Dante. It’s not really up to me.”

Moore’s injury occurred early in the second quarter of the match against USC when he was tackled by Trojans linebacker Desman Stephen II. The tackle not only drove Moore’s head into the ground but also caused a significant delay in the game as medical staff rushed to his aid. Following the incident, Moore was placed on a stretcher and transported to a hospital for further evaluation.

The incident escalated tensions on the field, prompting a near altercation between Oregon players and USC defenders. Officials, along with coaches, intervened to diffuse the situation. Stephen was subsequently penalised for targeting and ejected from the game.
Despite Moore’s current situation, Lanning emphasised his importance to the team, indicating that he will continue to play a pivotal role in training and strategy. “We’d love to have Dante out there,” Lanning remarked. “He’s still going to be a big part of this team and helping us move forward, finding opportunities for us to be better.”
Since joining the Ducks from UCLA in 2024, where he had garnered considerable attention, Moore has established himself as an integral member of the team. He initially rose to prominence after being named the top college football recruit by Sports Illustrated in 2022. After transferring, he served mainly as a backup in 2024 but showcased his talent to a broader audience last year.
In the current season, prior to his injury, Moore had an impressive record in four games. He threw for 926 yards and achieved nine touchdowns without an interception, demonstrating his capabilities as a quarterback. These statistics have further solidified his status as a leading prospect for the NFL Draft.
Looking forward, Lanning refrained from commenting on Moore’s status for next season, simply stating, “We can control the setting at practice where he’s able to do things for us. That’s not always the case in the game.” He assured fans that Moore continues to provide valuable contributions during practice sessions, describing him as delivering one of the best scout-team perspectives.
Moore’s transition to Oregon has not only been pivotal for his personal career but also fortifies the Ducks’ offensive strategies. His absence will be felt in the remainder of the season as the team seeks to maintain its competitive edge in the Pac-12 Conference.
As the sports community rallies around Moore for a swift recovery, the focus remains on both his health and his future prospects in college football and beyond. Lanning and the Ducks continue to express confidence in Moore’s potential, ensuring that he stays engaged with the team as they navigate through the remainder of the season without their star player.
