The investigation commenced following a concerning 911 call made by one of Miller’s children, who reported that her nine-year-old brother had sustained an injury after being struck on the head by a fallen dumbbell. Osceola County Sheriff’s Office responded to the emergency call on the evening of 21 October. Upon arrival, they found the injured boy, who required hospital treatment but was later discharged.

Authorities further discovered that the boy’s three siblings—including children aged 14, 12, and 11—were also left unattended in the home. Following this, deputies made contact with Miller to ascertain her whereabouts. She claimed that she had travelled to Las Vegas for work purposes on 18 October, with plans to return by 23 October.

Miller informed the deputies that she had arranged for a babysitter to come from Tampa to help get the children ready for school and check on them after classes. However, she admitted that she did not require the sitter to stay overnight. This revelation has left officials questioning the adequacy of the care provided in Miller’s absence.
Upon securing the necessary information, the sheriff’s office coordinated with the children’s father, who agreed to take them into his care while the investigation proceeded. Plans were also made for authorities to meet with Miller upon her return to Florida.
As part of the investigation, Miller was taken into custody on her arrival at the airport. Body camera footage that has circulated on social media depicts deputies approaching Miller as she disembarked from her flight. She was subsequently handcuffed and escorted to a police vehicle.
Currently, Miller has been booked into the county jail on the four charges of child neglect, but it remains unclear whether she has entered a plea or secured legal representation. The case has garnered considerable attention, highlighting ongoing concerns surrounding child safety and parental responsibility.
In light of this incident, officials remind the public of the importance of vigilance in ensuring child safety. The Childhelp National Child Abuse Hotline offers resources for anyone concerned about the wellbeing of a child, operating around the clock in multiple languages.
As this case develops, the community is left to grapple with the implications of leaving minors unattended and the responsibilities of parents regarding child care. Continuing developments will shed further light on Miller’s situation and the future for her children, who have already experienced a traumatic event.
