Meghan Markle has released a statement in response to distressing claims surrounding her father, Thomas Markle Sr., who is reportedly under investigation for allegedly possessing a vast collection of child pornography in his home in the Philippines.
In an article published recently, reports emerged that Thomas Markle Jr., Meghan’s half-brother, had alerted authorities, including the FBI, after allegedly discovering “hundreds, if not thousands” of pornographic images depicting children at their father’s residence in Cebu. Meghan expressed her deep concern regarding the situation, stating that her thoughts are with any children who may have been harmed.
In her statement, shared with PEOPLE, Meghan revealed that she was made aware of “troubling and disturbing allegations” against her father back in 2018. This was communicated through a letter sent to the Metropolitan Police and Royalty and Specialist Protection. She clarified that this correspondence was subsequently shared with her and confirmed that it contained serious accusations regarding her father’s conduct.
At that time, the allegations had not been substantiated, and Meghan was advised against making any public statements that could potentially interfere with an ongoing investigation. Sources familiar with the situation indicated that Meghan also had legal concerns regarding discussing unproven claims in the media.
Following her royal wedding to Prince Harry in May 2018—an occasion marked by the absence of Thomas Sr. due to controversies surrounding staged paparazzi photos—Meghan adhered to a distance from her father.
