Palin took to Instagram to announce Duguay’s passing, expressing her sorrow and faith. “It’s with a shattered heart, but also deep peace knowing Ron is with Jesus now,” she shared. She fondly remembered his struggle against cancer, remarking, “He fought so hard. Love never ends.” Duguay and Palin began their relationship in 2022, sharing moments together that drew public attention.

Duguay’s path to fame began in Canada, where he was born on July 6, 1957, in Sudbury, Ontario. He discovered his passion for hockey early on, playing for the Sudbury Wolves in the Ontario Major Junior Hockey League. His remarkable talent led him to the NHL, where he had a distinguished career spanning 12 seasons, predominantly with the New York Rangers, but also with the Detroit Red Wings, Los Angeles Kings, and Pittsburgh Penguins.
Throughout his time with the Rangers, Duguay became a fan favourite, particularly noted for his distinctive skating style and long hair flowing behind him as he sped down the ice. He played a pivotal role in getting the Rangers to the Stanley Cup Final in 1979, although they ultimately lost to the Montreal Canadiens. Over his NHL career, Duguay amassed an impressive record, contributing a total of 620 points through 274 goals and 346 assists in 860 regular-season games.
Following his retirement from professional hockey ahead of the 2008-09 season, Duguay transitioned into a role as an analyst for the Rangers on MSG Network, where he worked for over a decade until 2018. His insight into the game kept him connected to the sport that had captured his heart since childhood.
In his personal life, Duguay endured two marriages. His first was to Robin Bobo, with whom he had two daughters, Amber and Shay. After their divorce, he married model Kim Alexis, with whom he had a son, Noah, before their divorce in 2016.
Palin and Duguay’s relationship emerged amid a backdrop of mutual respect and friendship, initially sparked when Palin sought Duguay’s advice regarding her defamation lawsuit against The New York Times, which had been dismissed. As they connected further, she described their bond as “safe and comfortable.” Their time together in New York was often spent exploring the city, with Duguay sharing insights into his rich hockey history.
In February 2023, news broke of Duguay’s severe cancer diagnosis, leading to a dedicated battle over the months. His family announced his passing with heartfelt tributes, with each message reflecting the deep love they shared. Shay, one of his daughters, posted, “Our hearts are broken. We love you forever, Dad,” a sentiment echoed by so many who admired Duguay beyond his athletic accomplishments.
The New York Rangers organisation also released a statement mourning his loss, calling him one of the most popular players in the team’s storied history. The tribute highlighted his impact on the franchise and the hockey community, underscoring the loss felt by fans who appreciated his skills and charm both on and off the ice.
As friends, family, and fans come to terms with Ron Duguay’s passing, his legacy as a talented athlete and a beloved figure in the sport will undoubtedly endure. The memories shared by those who knew him, alongside his contributions to hockey, ensure that he will be remembered long beyond his time.
