Broadway star Shoshana Bean has opened the doors to her dressing room at the Palace Theatre, providing fans with an exclusive look at her life behind the scenes in the hit musical, The Lost Boys. Bean, a Tony and Grammy Award winner, takes centre stage as Lucy Emerson in this vibrant adaptation of the cherished 1987 vampire film.
In a unique photo diary shared with PEOPLE, Bean unveils the enchanting world that exists beyond the spotlight. Captured by photographer Michael Kushner for The Dressing Room Project, this intimate visual journey reveals Bean’s preparation process and her close relationship with fellow cast members during her eight performances each week.

Starring in The Lost Boys marks a significant achievement in Bean’s impressive career. Having previously earned nominations for her roles in Mr. Saturday Night and Hell’s Kitchen, she celebrated her first Tony Award this year for her portrayal of Lucy. Additionally, she secured a Grammy for the original Broadway cast recording of Hell’s Kitchen, further establishing her as a force in theatre.
The Lost Boys, directed by Tony Award winner Michael Arden, features a book by David Hornsby and Chris Hoch, complemented by music and lyrics from The Rescues. The story follows brothers Michael and Sam, who relocate to the fictional beach town of Santa Carla in hopes of a new beginning but find themselves entangled with a seductive and dangerous gang led by the enigmatic David.
Since its debut in April, the musical has garnered acclaim, winning four Tony Awards, including accolades for Bean and her co-star Ali Louis Bourzgui. The production continues its run until July 3, 2027, and plans for a North American tour are already in the pipeline for spring 2028.
Despite her hectic schedule on Broadway, Bean remains dedicated to her music. She recently celebrated the release of her latest independent album, Only Smoke, which reflects her emotional journey following a challenging breakup. The songwriting process proved to be a cathartic experience, allowing her to delve into raw vulnerability. Bean emphasised her intent to connect authentically with her audience, moving beyond extravagant productions to offer heartfelt storytelling.
Following a series of performances on the West Coast, Bean is set to return to New York City for a special one-night concert at the iconic Beacon Theatre on December 14. This show, her inaugural solo performance at the famed venue, will showcase selections from her album alongside seasonal favourites.
In the photo diary, Bean describes the luxurious new dressing rooms in the Palace Theatre as a welcome change from her previous, more confined spaces. “I feel so spoiled! I’ve had dressing rooms that could barely fit three people comfortably,” she shared. The spacious environment encourages socialising, as she enjoys pre-show gatherings with her castmates.
A sense of warmth and familiarity permeates her dressing room, with personal touches from her life. Recently, she decorated her space with photographs from her trips to Montana, where she had contemplated relocating before receiving the offer for The Lost Boys. Her dog, Sammy Davis Jr., often accompanies her, adding to the joyful atmosphere amongst cast members.
Bean’s backstage rituals also feature moments of connection with her co-stars. Regular visits from fellow actor Benjamin Pajak provide not just companionship but also a vital part of her pre-show routine. Together, they share laughter, music, and a supportive family-like bond, making the theatre experience truly special for Bean.
Another cherished item in her dressing room is a nostalgic photograph from the original Lost Boys film, gifted to her by Pajak. The snapshot serves as a poignant reminder of the show’s roots while also symbolising the connection between past and present performances.
As Bean continues to navigate her dual passions for acting and music, she expresses gratitude toward her team, particularly for the support of her dresser and close friend, LJ Behlman. “I couldn’t do what I do, nor would it be half as fun, without her,” Bean remarked.
Reflecting on her experience in The Lost Boys, Bean noted, “This is one of the happiest buildings I’ve ever had the pleasure of working in.” The camaraderie among the cast and crew plays a pivotal role in making every show’s performance a memorable occasion.
With tickets for both The Lost Boys and her upcoming concert at the Beacon Theatre now on sale, fans eagerly anticipate what promises to be an extraordinary night of music and theatre. Shoshana Bean continues to captivate audiences—not only onstage but also through her heartfelt storytelling and community spirit behind the curtains.
