A Tennessee father has been detained following allegations that he left his four-month-old daughter unattended in a running car while he was waiting in line at a bar in Nashville. Jordan Hayley, 25, faces serious charges of child neglect and leaving a child unattended in a vehicle.
The incident occurred during the early hours of Sunday, October 18, in the vibrant Broadway area, a well-known district frequented by locals and tourists alike for its bustling nightlife. Officers from the Metro Nashville Police Department were patrolling the area when they noticed a heated argument between Hayley and the mother of his child outside Jason Aldean’s Kitchen + Rooftop Bar.

Witnesses reported that the couple was highly agitated, with the woman visibly upset and confronting Hayley about their daughter’s whereabouts. According to police statements, the woman alleged that Hayley was meant to care for the infant but had failed to do so, leaving her uncertainty regarding their child’s safety.
When questioned by police, Hayley purportedly claimed that the child was being looked after by the woman’s mother, a statement the woman refuted. Despite the ongoing argument, Hayley reportedly insisted that his version of events was accurate.
The officers decided to investigate further and proceeded to Hayley’s vehicle, where they discovered the baby seated in a car seat positioned incorrectly, facing the rear of the car. The baby was also found alone and, according to the arrest affidavit, the engine was running. This alarming situation unfolded in close proximity to the busy bars and restaurants lining Broadway, an area often populated by lively crowds, including many intoxicated individuals.
Fortunately, police acted swiftly, reuniting the infant with her mother without incident. The situation highlighted serious concerns about child safety in busy urban environments, particularly where alcohol is prevalent.
In light of these events, Hayley was charged with felony child neglect, applicable to caregivers of children aged eight years or younger, as well as a misdemeanour for leaving a child unattended in a vehicle. His bond was set at $5,000 for the neglect charge and $1,500 for the misdemeanour.
As of now, there has been no indication that Hayley has secured legal representation to comment on his behalf. This case has sparked discussions about parental responsibilities and the potential consequences of neglect, particularly in public spaces.
The incident has raised alarms within the community regarding the need for vigilance when it comes to child welfare, especially in areas known for their nightlife. In Nashville, a city renowned for its vibrant music scene and late-night revelry, situations like these serve as a critical reminder for parents and guardians about the dangers of leaving children unattended.
Nashville’s Metropolitan Police continue to underscore the importance of ensuring children’s safety in all circumstances, urging parents to remain mindful of their responsibilities. As investigations proceed, local residents are left to reflect on the implications of such incidents and the measures that can be taken to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
