Kelly Rizzo, the widow of renowned comedian Bob Saget, has shared touching insights into how she keeps the memory of her late husband alive. Saget, who passed away in January 2022 at the age of 65, was cherished by many, and Rizzo continues to honour their shared moments in her everyday life.
In a recent interview with PEOPLE ahead of the Cool Comedy Hot Cuisine gala, where she served as co-chair, Rizzo explained her daily ritual of greeting a large poster of Saget that was once displayed in his office. Positioned just outside her bedroom, the poster serves as a constant reminder of her late husband.
“Every day I walk by it, I say ‘Hi’ to him,” Rizzo said. By using Saget’s pet name for her, she expresses her affection in a way that feels personal and intimate. This daily interaction allows her to maintain a connection with Saget’s spirit, bringing her comfort as she navigates life without him.
Rizzo also takes time to visit Saget’s gravesite, making the trip every few months, though not as frequently as she might like. She recently visited with her sister, Kimmy, particularly on a day that was special as they prepared for a comedy event commemorating Saget. “It was nice to go on such a beautiful day, especially today… You know, like, we’re doing some comedy tonight,” she shared, highlighting the significance of laughter in memorialising her husband.
The couple’s love story began in 2015, when Saget found Rizzo through social media. Their relationship blossomed after a dinner date, and they soon became a popular presence on each other’s social media profiles, beginning in July 2016. Rizzo recalls this period with fondness, noting the joy they found in each other’s company.
In November 2017, Saget proposed to Rizzo, culminating in their nuptials in October 2018 in Santa Monica, California. The couple often celebrated their bond on social media; in a heartfelt post in late December 2021, Rizzo shared a compilation of their memories, captioning it with warmth and appreciation for the time they spent together.
Tragically, on January 9, 2022, Saget was found deceased in his hotel room at The Ritz-Carlton in Orlando, Florida, following a stand-up performance earlier that night. The cause of death was later confirmed to be blunt head trauma, attributed to an unwitnessed fall. This sudden loss deeply affected Rizzo and the many fans who adored Saget for his humour and kindness.
As the two-year anniversary of his passing approached, Rizzo revealed a new relationship with actor Breckin Meyer. She described Meyer as incredibly supportive during her period of grief, which helped Rizzo feel a sense of normalcy as she begins to open herself up to new love.
