Born in Missouri, McDonnell faces serious charges of bank fraud and aggravated identity theft. According to the FBI, her fraudulent activities spanned from July 2017 to May 2018, during which she purportedly devised a scheme to trick a California bank into handing over approximately £14.7 million, funds she is alleged to have known she was not entitled to.

The details surrounding McDonnell’s alleged fraud involve her claiming to be an heir to the McDonnell Aircraft family and that she possessed access to an £80 million secret trust. These assertions reportedly served as part of her ploy to mislead the banks and secure the substantial amounts of money.
In addition to the estimated £14.7 million obtained from one institution, investigations suggest McDonnell may have also been involved in defrauding other banks, amassing a total exceeding £15 million. The FBI announced the issuance of a federal arrest warrant for her on December 12, 2018. Authorities are currently investigating reports that she may be residing in Dubai, making her elusive to capture.
As part of the efforts to locate McDonnell, the FBI has offered a reward of up to £150,000 for any information that leads to her arrest and conviction. This financial incentive underscores the seriousness of the allegations and the commitment of law enforcement to bring her to justice.
Descriptions of McDonnell portray her as being 5 feet 7 inches tall, weighing around 145 pounds, with blue eyes and blonde hair. Nevertheless, officials have indicated that her appearance may have changed over time given the duration of her evasion. In addition to her physical characteristics, the FBI has noted that McDonnell is known to use numerous aliases, including Mary Carole Carroll, Mary Carol McDonnell, Mary Carroll McDonnell, Mary C. Carroll, and Mary Carroll McDonald.
There are also indications that McDonnell has connections to Montgomery, Alabama, signalling that she may have a wider network across various states. The variety of names and connections complicate the search for her, as it becomes increasingly difficult to track her movements.
The FBI has called on the public for assistance in locating McDonnell. Individuals with any information about her whereabouts are encouraged to reach out to their local FBI office or contact the nearest American Embassy or Consulate. Additionally, the FBI’s toll-free tip line, 800-CA-FBI, remains available for the submission of tips, as does the agency’s official website.
This ongoing case highlights the challenges law enforcement faces in combating financial fraud, especially when it involves complex schemes and individuals who exploit their circumstances. The repercussions of McDonnell’s alleged actions are significant, not only for the institutions directly impacted but also for the broader financial ecosystem that relies on trust and integrity.
As the investigation continues, the situation serves as a reminder of the evolving landscape of financial crime and the necessity for vigilance and accountability in banking practices. It remains to be seen whether McDonnell will be apprehended, but the authorities are resolute in their commitment to ensuring that justice is served.
