For 44-year-old Stephanie, the transition to managing her household with a newborn has been significant. Prior to Joshua’s arrival, she enjoyed a certain freedom with her three older children—Jasiah, 17; Jaloni, 20; and Jalon, 27. However, that has now shifted, requiring careful planning and preparation to embark on even the simplest outings. “When you’re used to coming and going as you please, and now you need at least two hours and two extra bags before you can even step out of the house, everything takes on a new perspective,” she shared. “Rhys is our top priority now, and even a quick trip to the supermarket involves bringing along a newborn and everything that entails.”
Beyond logistical challenges, Stephanie has been astonished by the evolution of parenting gadgets since her earlier experiences. “The amount of baby gadgets is insane!” she remarked, highlighting her eye-opening encounter with the plethora of products available. Reflecting on past traditions, she recalled how she once created registries with her eldest child by physically going to stores. In contrast, her experience with Rhys’ registry was facilitated through online shopping, a concept that felt daunting given her preference for the tactile experience of shopping in person. “I came from an era of seeing, touching, and feeling things, and creating what I call a ‘blind registry’ was overwhelming,” she admitted.
The journey to parenthood once again became a public topic when Stephanie’s announcement about her pregnancy went viral. The heartwarming video—captured during a Thanksgiving family moment—showed her older children’s reactions, which ranged from confusion to happiness. They are also preparing for adventures as a family, with plans for milestones and outings that include father-son fishing trips and beach days. “We’re both excited to introduce him to South Florida, where my husband grew up, and plan a visit to Disney,” she explained.
