Hollywood actor Michael Douglas has recently provided an intimate glimpse into his expansive estate in Mallorca, which he shares with his wife, actress Catherine Zeta-Jones. In an interview with the Wall Street Journal, published on 13th October, the 82-year-old actor elaborated on his life between the stunning Mediterranean island and their residence in New York City.

Douglas revealed that their family home, known as S’Estaca, dates back to 1867 and is set on a sprawling 190 acres of land, offering breathtaking views of the Mediterranean Sea. “We love being surrounded by nature and our serene view and privacy,” he shared, highlighting the charm of their secluded retreat.

Within the estate, which Douglas first purchased with his ex-wife Diandra Luker in 1990 for approximately $3.5 million, the actor has created a space that is both personal and functional. Among his cherished possessions is a distinctive fuchsia armchair, strategically placed by an open window overlooking the sea. Additionally, he has transformed part of the wine cellar into a multifunctional space that includes a golf simulator and home theatre.
Reflecting on his experience at S’Estaca, Douglas recalled a particularly challenging phase following his divorce from Luker, during which they awkwardly shared the estate. In a 2021 interview, he described that time as “very uncomfortable,” with shared living arrangements proving to be less than ideal for both parties.
Although Douglas had previously attempted to sell the property for $60 million in 2014, he later opted to keep it following his marriage to Zeta-Jones. In a marketing video he narrated in 2019, he expressed a desire to pass the enjoyment of S’Estaca onto someone else, but ultimately, it became a cherished family domain for him and Zeta-Jones, along with their two children, son Dylan, 26, and daughter Carys, 23.
Architectural Digest previously detailed that S’Estaca encompasses five apartments and two cottages, complemented by a library, game room, outdoor kitchen, and heated pool. The estate even attracted a number of high-profile guests, with celebrities such as Tom Cruise, Nicole Kidman, and Jack Nicholson reportedly enjoying its luxurious amenities during their stays.
During the Atlantida Mallorca Film Festival held in 2024, where he was honoured with the Master of Cinema award by Spain’s Queen Letizia, Douglas reiterated his affection for the island. “Mallorca is my second home. I’ve been here for 35 years, and to receive this honour from the Queen is muy especial,” he expressed, underlining his deep-rooted connection to the locale.
Catherine Zeta-Jones has also spoken about their lifestyle and their various residences. In an August 2025 interview with The Sunday Times, she acknowledged that the couple owned four homes across different locations, including Canada and New York City. “I know it sounds very jet set, and I love to surround myself with beauty, but it’s not excessive — it’s very comfortable,” she remarked, shedding light on their nomadic lifestyle.
Through their diverse properties, Douglas and Zeta-Jones continue to maintain a balance between their professional commitments and personal lives, fostering a nurturing environment for their family. With a thriving career and a picturesque estate, the couple’s partnership reflects a harmonious blend of love for each other and their surroundings.
As the couple divides their time between Mallorca’s serene landscapes and the hustle and bustle of New York, they remain a testament to the beauty of privacy and the joys of family life amid nature. Their journey through both personal challenges and professional success showcases a deeply rooted appreciation for the life they have built together.
