The victim, a 21-year-old woman who is not a student at the university, was attending a party at the Alpha Epsilon Pi fraternity house—a venue that is not officially linked with the institution and lies just off-campus. Her two friends allege that when they found her in a bathroom inside the fraternity, she was in a disturbing state, described as “not fully conscious” and partially undressed.
According to the police report obtained by the *Chicago Sun-Times*, the situation escalated as the woman’s friends attempted to intervene. While they were trying to enter the bathroom to assist their friend, they were allegedly blocked by a group of around five men who reportedly cheered on the ongoing situation. A further allegation claims that one of the men physically pulled one of the friends by her hair while the other was working to unlock the door.

When the friends managed to gain entry, they discovered the male individual with the victim in a highly inappropriate situation. Upon confronting him, they allege that he dismissed the incident, stating that “everything was cool.” The friends later identified him outside the fraternity house, but one of the other men insisted that the women were mistaken about his identity. This confrontation was recorded on TikTok, where one woman can be seen pursuing the man as he attempts to flee the scene, further complicating the situation.
Following the victim’s report, the Chicago Police Department (CPD) has initiated an investigation. The department has confirmed that an arrest was made on Tuesday, although no formal charges have yet been brought against anyone involved. Moreover, the police spokesperson stated that the victim self-transported to the University of Chicago Hospital for treatment after the alleged incident.
In response to the report of assault, the University of Chicago issued public safety alerts. The first was released on Sunday, encouraging anyone with information about the event to come forward, while a subsequent alert was made on Tuesday after the police made an arrest. The alerts emphasised that witness statements and video footage from university surveillance systems had been shared with the CPD to assist in the investigation.
The fraternity involved, Alpha Epsilon Pi, has released a statement indicating that no members of the organisation were implicated in the incident. They have asserted their full cooperation with the ongoing investigation, stating that a fraternity member remained with the victim until the appropriate authorities arrived.
This incident has surfaced amidst widespread scrutiny of fraternity culture in academic institutions, particularly in light of previous sexual assault cases. The recent allegations at Cornell University have reignited discussions around campus safety and the responsibilities of fraternities in protecting students and their guests alike.
A representative from the University of Chicago emphasized their commitment to addressing such serious allegations. The institution has urged anyone with pertinent information to contribute to the investigation and assist in ensuring accountability.
The case remains under active investigation by the Chicago Police Department. Both officials and the university community continue to monitor the developments closely as they navigate the implications of this troubling incident.
