The incident occurred at around 3:58 pm local time during what was meant to be an enjoyable outing for families visiting the park. Eyewitness accounts describe a scene of chaos and horror as Kariem fell from the ride, subsequently striking other patrons before landing beneath the attraction. Reports suggest that many witnesses were left traumatised by the graphic nature of what they saw.

Police have indicated that preliminary investigations included interviews with both witnesses and park employees, which led to the conclusion that Kariem was ejected from the roller coaster. Officers arrived on the scene shortly after the incident, where they found him unresponsive and not breathing. Immediate assistance was requested from the Major Crimes Unit to investigate further.

One witness recalled seeing Hassan’s son seated next to him at the time of the fall. The gravity of the situation was heightened for the young boy, who had to witness such a devastating event. The witness expressed concern for the child, indicating that his mother and sister were not on the ride and were unaware of what had transpired until they were later informed.
Additional accounts from those present revealed the extreme nature of the ride’s malfunction. One witness described the moment when the victim appeared to be flung back by the force of the roller coaster. The witness’s wife commented on how quickly the atmosphere shifted from fun to fear, recounting how they had initially been excited but quickly became overwhelmed. “It went from having a great time to just screaming, ‘Oh my God, what is happening,’” she stated.
In a statement released after the incident, a spokesperson for Six Flags Over Georgia expressed sorrow for the tragic occurrence, offering condolences to the victim’s family and affirming that the park is cooperating with ongoing investigations. “We are deeply saddened by the guest incident at our park today,” the spokesperson said.
Mableton’s Mayor, Michael Owens, also extended his sympathies to the grieving family, stating that the community is mourning this tragic event. He noted their respect for the family’s privacy and the ongoing inquiry into the matter.
Lisa Cupid, chairwoman of the Cobb County Board of Commissioners, highlighted the emotional weight of the incident for both onlookers and park employees. She remarked on the juxtaposition of Six Flags as a place meant to create joyful memories and the sorrow resulting from this unforeseen tragedy. “I cannot imagine the horror the patrons and employees witnessed today, and my heart aches for the family who lost a loved one,” she said.
The Goliath roller coaster is known for its impressive height of 200 feet and speeds reaching up to 70 miles per hour, adding to the complexity of safety measures needed to ensure the wellbeing of its riders. Given the nature of this incident, questions regarding ride safety and operational protocols are likely to come under scrutiny in the wake of Kariem’s death.
As investigations continue, the local community, parkgoers, and family members are grappling with the aftermath of a day that started with excitement but ended in tragedy. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the unpredictable nature of amusement rides and the importance of stringent safety regulations in ensuring the protection of all guests.
