Chantal Kreviazuk and Raine Maida, a couple who have shared nearly 27 years of marriage, have recently released a co-authored book titled *I’m Going to Break Your Heart: A Rock N Roll Love Story*. The book was inspired by a challenging period during the filming of their 2019 documentary of the same name. Reflecting on that experience, Kreviazuk, who is 53, noted how dark moments proved pivotal in their decision to write the book. “We were in the trenches,” she remarked during a recent discussion focusing on the emotional challenges of that time. Maida, the frontman of Our Lady Peace and 56 years old, added that the documentary highlighted the struggles involved in their creative processes, which helped shape the narrative of their relationship.

Released on 4th August by ECW Press, *I’m Going to Break Your Heart* provides alternating perspectives on their nearly three-decade-long marriage. In crafting the book, Kreviazuk and Maida aimed not only to guide other couples through their relationship challenges but also to leave a legacy for their three sons, Rowan, Lucca, and Salvador, to reflect upon in future years. “Our history together is worth it. Our kids are worth it. And having each other forever is incredible,” Maida commented, emphasising the importance of dedication and effort in sustaining their love.

Despite the hurdles they have encountered, both artists express unwavering support for one another. Maida shared that Kreviazuk remains his primary confidante, indicating the strength of their bond. “It’s not luck. We put in that work and that dedication,” he stated. Kreviazuk further elucidated that the book represents a love story but also underscores the daily commitment required to maintain a strong relationship, showcasing the necessity of continuous effort.
In their interactions, Kreviazuk and Maida discovered more about each other, particularly regarding their different experiences of key life events. Kreviazuk spoke about the growth they achieved by paralleling their narratives, learning to accept and appreciate each other’s unique perspectives. “It was a true growth for us… lock in on what interdependency is,” she explained, highlighting the importance of mutual respect in a healthy marriage.
The couple also tackled the complexities of jealousy inherent in their respective careers within the music industry. “Feelings are feelings,” Kreviazuk stated, discussing the difficulties that arise when one partner’s work involves close collaboration with others. Maida echoed her sentiments, mentioning that they maintain open lines of communication, navigating emotional challenges together.
In discussing the coaching they engaged in with Dr. John Grey—whose guidance proved instrumental in strengthening their relationship—Kreviazuk revealed how this journey began with a desire to improve her friendships. Meanwhile, Maida pointed out that reframing therapy as “coaching” has made it more accessible for men. “The stigma around therapy for men is really difficult,” he confessed, recognising the societal pressures that can impede open discussions about emotional vulnerability.
The book also includes charming anecdotes, including the delightful revelation that singer Avril Lavigne was the first person to hold their baby. This personal story illustrates the close relationships they cultivated during their collaborative journeys. Kreviazuk reminisced about how Lavigne was a significant presence during the recording of her album, deepening their familial bonds.
In addition to the book’s release, Kreviazuk is preparing to launch her forthcoming album *Rockstar Joy*, which also reflects on their relationship. The title track celebrates the everyday heroes in our lives, capturing the myriad roles one plays as a partner. “It’s about being married to a rock star… but ultimately, everyone is a rock star in their own right,” she articulated, noting the song’s broader appeal.
As they embark on a tour together in November, Kreviazuk and Maida continue to exemplify the belief that strong relationships are built on a foundation of mutual respect and communication. Their new book, *I’m Going to Break Your Heart*, is already available, while *Rockstar Joy* is set to be released soon, promising new insights into their enduring love story.
