The production will offer theatre-goers a chance to relive the enchanting storyline that captured hearts worldwide when the original film premiered in 1987. Director Lonny Price, who portrayed Neil Kellerman in the classic movie, returns to the story, providing a unique connection to its legacy. The limited engagement will run until 5 September 2027.

Leading the cast are Annalese Starzec and Blake Zelesnikar, both making their Broadway debuts in the roles of Frances “Baby” Houseman and the enigmatic dance instructor Johnny Castle, respectively. The duo is currently starring in the North American tour of the musical, which began in Saint Paul, Minnesota, in August and will continue across the continent before arriving in New York City.
The musical adaptation, written by Eleanor Bergstein—who also penned the screenplay for the original film—will transport audience members back to the Catskills in the summer of 1963. The narrative follows Baby’s romantic journey with Johnny during a family vacation, filled with the vibrant music that contributed to the film’s cultural impact.
Choreography for the production is entrusted to Darrell Grand Moultrie, known for his work on Broadway’s “Fat Ham” and Beyoncé’s global tours. The cast includes a talented ensemble of 27 members, with a noteworthy 21 performers making their Broadway debuts. The full company features additional characters such as Penny Johnson, played by Olivia Cece, and Jake Houseman, portrayed by Bryan Fenkart.
Fans of the original film can look forward to a soundtrack that includes classic songs such as “(I’ve Had) The Time of My Life,” “Hungry Eyes,” “Do You Love Me?” and “She’s Like the Wind,” all integral to the film’s meteoric success. Jennifer Grey will return to reprise her role as Baby in the upcoming project produced by Nina Jacobson and Brad Simpson of “The Hunger Games” franchise.
