Through spontaneous sessions, the narrative of the album became apparent, focusing on empowering themes that encouraged self-confidence and resilience. “I wanted to embrace the audacity to be loud and take up space,” she explained.
Reflecting on her personal life during the album’s creation, Stephens pointed out that the end of a significant relationship coincided with her tour. “That was a turning point for me. I realised I needed to let go of what was holding me back,” she shared. Many of the songs portray her newfound strength and defiance in the face of adversity.
The track “Expensive and Difficult” emerges as a highlight, representing her affirmation of self-worth and unapologetic confidence. “It’s a warning for those who might underestimate me,” she stated, reinforcing her commitment to valuing her time and space.
Despite her growing fame, Stephens has taken a step back from dating, instead choosing to focus on her music. “When the right time comes, it will be with someone who is prepared for the challenge,” she laughed, acknowledging that her DMs are filled with interactions more aligned with her persona as a ‘gay icon’ rather than romantic advances.
Looking ahead, Jae Stephens is clear about her ambitions. “I want to be ubiquitous, to the point where people feel they’ve had enough of me,” she declared with enthusiasm.
