Wilson debuted with CBS on September 13, during a game between the Minnesota Vikings and the Green Bay Packers. Reflecting on his initial week in this new capacity, Wilson expressed some challenges he faced during the shift from player to commentator. Speaking at the Fast Company Innovation Festival in New York City, he shared insights into his experience during a panel titled “Why Not You? Russell Wilson on What It Takes to Build What’s Next” on September 16.

“The hardest part about the transition has been just leaving the game,” Wilson stated. He was quick to highlight the positive aspects of his new role, particularly the camaraderie he shares with his colleagues, which includes notable figures such as James Brown, Bill Cowher, Nate Burleson, and Kyle Long. He referred to these individuals as the “biggest blessing” in his new job.

Reflecting on the impact of his career, Wilson fondly recalled his first meeting with Bill Cowher, a Hall of Fame coach, while he was a sophomore at North Carolina State University. “Now I’m standing next to this guy, thinking about what God has done and how he’s used my career for 14 years,” he remarked, radiating enthusiasm about working alongside Cowher.
Wilson announced his retirement from professional football in June 2023 after a stellar career that began with the Seattle Seahawks, where he won a Super Bowl in 2014. Following his time with the Seahawks, Wilson was traded to the Denver Broncos in 2022, followed by a season with the Pittsburgh Steelers and then the New York Giants, where he played his final season.
As Wilson navigates this new phase of life, he emphasises the importance of living in the present. “It’s about having gratitude for the moments and understanding that there are all these little Hail Mary moments that happen throughout our lives,” he explained. He underlined the significance of recognising the people who have positively influenced one’s journey, even if that impact isn’t immediately apparent.
This busy period for Wilson is further enhanced by recent personal news. On September 6, his wife, Ciara, shared that they are expecting their fifth child. Married since 2016, the couple already has three children together: Win Harrison, aged six; Sienna Princess, aged nine; and Amora Princess, aged two. Ciara also has a twelve-year-old son, Future Zahir, from her previous relationship with rapper Future.
The couple’s pregnancy announcement was celebrated with enthusiasm, as they shared photos and videos showcasing Ciara’s growing baby bump, expressing their joy with the caption, “One more person to Love 🖐🏽🥺🖤”.
As Wilson embarks on his new role as an analyst, he remains focused on the positive changes in his life, both professionally and personally. His journey from the football field to the broadcasting booth represents not just a change in career but also a shift in perspective, highlighting the valuable lessons learned over a successful athletic career. As audiences tune in to Wilson’s insights on CBS Sports, they will witness the evolution of an athlete determined to make an impact beyond the gridiron.
