Molly, a 32-year-old mother from Flintshire, had taken her nine-year-old son, Alfie, to the cinema for a family outing. Earlier that day, she had visited her midwife, but was hopeful that she would have a few more days before going into labour. However, her plans soon changed as she realised that she was about to give birth, roughly 40 to 45 minutes into the film.
“There was a moment when I thought, ‘Something doesn’t feel right,’” Molly recounted, reliving the tense scene. “I was watching Hagrid and Harry shopping for Hogwarts supplies when the discomfort intensified, and I knew something was changing.” With her body in shock and adrenaline coursing through her, Molly left the theatre to seek help.
After contacting Wrexham Maelor Hospital and receiving advice to come in, she called her partner, Scott, who was resting before his night shift, asking him to pick her up. Meanwhile, theatre manager Michelle McClean and staff member Leah Prytherch sprang into action to assist Molly. They immediately contacted emergency services and gathered towels and sheets to provide her with privacy from other cinema-goers.
“Cineworld and Starbucks staff were incredible,” Molly expressed. “They created a shield around me with towels and sheets, ensuring I was hidden from view. I cannot thank them enough.”
Just as the situation developed, Molly’s waters broke, and she instinctively felt the urge to push. “I can’t hold it back, I need to push. Two pushes, and my daughter was out,” she recalled, marking the precise moment Elsie Lamb entered the world at 4:57 p.m.
