A tragic incident in Missouri has resulted in the death of a tractor-trailer driver and left two others injured after a series of collisions involving several vehicles and homes. The crash took place in south St. Louis County on the afternoon of 9th September, when the driver, a 52-year-old resident of Jerseyville, Illinois, lost control of his vehicle.

According to reports from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the incident unfolded around 2 PM. The tractor-trailer, while travelling on Interstate 255, clipped the rear of an SUV near Koch Road. Subsequently, the heavy vehicle veered off the road, breached a concrete barrier, and continued its trajectory towards residential properties. The collision ultimately involved three homes and two parked cars before coming to a halt.
Emergency services were called to the scene, but unfortunately, the driver of the tractor-trailer was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. Meanwhile, the two occupants of the SUV—a 73-year-old woman and her 14-year-old passenger—sustained only minor injuries and were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Alice Kosick, a homeowner who experienced the crash first-hand, recounted the terrifying moment she and her husband felt the impact. “It was like a bomb went off,” she recalled, explaining how they had just been watching television when the truck crashed into their garage. “I was yelling at my husband, ‘Are you alright? Are you alright? Call 911!’” The sheer force of the collision caused debris to fly across the room, though fortunately her husband was shielded from harm by his high-backed chair.
Kosick described the swift actions of bystanders who witnessed the horrific event. Several truck drivers, realising an accident had occurred, rushed to assist the couple as they navigated their way out of their damaged home. “They ran down to see what was going on and helped us out,” she noted appreciatively.
Another neighbour, Wendy Hirning, who was outside at the time, shared her shock at witnessing the crash. “He just came through the fence and barreled this way. No braking. Went down the embankment,” she said, unable to anticipate which house would be struck. “It was like a movie, only you didn’t really want to be at that movie. It was just shocking,” she added, reflecting on the chaos.
The impact of the crash has led to significant destruction, with Kosick confirming that her home is likely a total loss, while both of their vehicles have also been deemed unusable. In the aftermath, the couple has been temporarily relocated to a hotel thanks to the support of their insurance company. Despite the devastation of their property, Kosick expressed gratitude that they emerged without serious injuries. “We’re just thankful we’re not hurt. It could have been so much worse,” she remarked.
Returning to the site the following day, Kosick and her husband assessed the full extent of the damage. They are now left grappling with the aftermath of this unexpected tragedy and hold hope for the future. “We hope to rebuild in the same spot,” she said, looking towards potential recovery despite the challenges ahead.
