According to the Tulsa Police Department, the incident unfolded as a mother was shopping with her two children. As she browsed the aisles of the Walmart located near 68th Street and Memorial Drive, a man, later identified as Marshall Dixon, approached her. He briefly engaged her in conversation about her children before taking her one-year-old from the shopping cart and placing the child in his own cart, subsequently walking away.

The mother, whose identity has not been released, quickly confronted the suspect and managed to reclaim her child. Following the confrontation, she took precautionary measures by locking herself and her children in a bathroom within the store to call the police for assistance. Walmart’s management acted promptly by removing Dixon from the premises and notified law enforcement of the situation.
When police arrived at the store, they located Dixon sitting at a nearby bus stop. Upon questioning, he reportedly acknowledged his involvement in the incident, stating simply, “Yeah, I did that.” Dixon, 50 years old, was subsequently arrested and taken into custody, where he was booked at the Tulsa County Jail on suspicion of kidnapping.
The case has been particularly concerning for local residents, prompting the Tulsa Police Department to share information via a Facebook post to outline the events and reassure the public of their action in response to the situation. CCTV footage capturing the incident has also been released by the police, serving as both evidence and a warning to parents about the potential threats in public spaces.
This alarming attempt at child abduction highlights the ongoing concerns over safety in shopping environments. Law enforcement officials have reiterated the importance of vigilance among parents and guardians, encouraging anyone who witnesses suspicious behaviour to report it immediately.
Marshall Dixon’s arrest has sparked discussions in the community about the need for increased safety protocols in public areas to prevent similar occurrences in the future. The quick response from the mother, who took immediate action to protect her child, has also been commended, showcasing the instinctive protective nature of parents when it comes to their children.
As investigations continue, the Tulsa Police Department has urged the public to remain alert and to report any suspicious activities. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the need for constant awareness, even in seemingly safe environments like supermarkets. The police department is working to ensure that such incidents are thoroughly investigated, and that justice is pursued for those affected.
