In a significant development within DeKalb County, Georgia, authorities have issued arrest warrants for 45-year-old Jamal Toliaferro, who faces multiple serious charges including rape and kidnapping with bodily injury. These allegations stem from a troubling series of assaults on women occurring between 2014 and 2024, which have only recently been connected to Toliaferro following his arrest in a separate case.

The DeKalb County District Attorney’s Office announced the charges on September 8, citing a series of horrifying incidents that point to a pattern of behaviour by Toliaferro. In addition to the rape and kidnapping charges, he is also implicated in aggravated assault, false imprisonment, armed robbery, and possession of a knife during the commission of a felony.
The authorities have linked Toliaferro to three separate incidents—one in 2014, another in 2019, and the latest in 2024. Investigations into these cases gained momentum after Toliaferro was arrested for the stabbing death of a 30-year-old man, Kenyon Jeffries, whose body was found in Tucker, Georgia. This led investigators to delve into Toliaferro’s past, where they uncovered his alleged involvement in the earlier assaults.
The first case allegedly unfolded on Christmas Eve in 2014 when a 54-year-old woman was confronted in her garage by a masked intruder. According to reports, he restrained her, covered her mouth, and assaulted her, after which she was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital for a sexual assault examination. Despite the collection of DNA evidence that was submitted to the Combined DNA Index System (CODIS), no suspect was identified at that time.
The investigation took a chilling turn five years later on January 30, 2019, when another assault occurred at an apartment complex. A 35-year-old woman reported that she was tied up and assaulted by a masked man armed with a knife. Notably, during the struggle, she bit her attacker, leaving behind a blood sample that again yielded no match within the DNA database, thus leaving investigators at an impasse.
However, in 2021, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) made a crucial discovery, connecting the 2019 incident with the earlier 2014 case, identifying them as the work of the same perpetrator. Toliaferro allegedly struck again in 2024, directly kidnapping a 67-year-old woman as she left work. During this ordeal, he reportedly bound her, taped her mouth shut, and subjected her to further violence while attempting to gain access to her bank account funds.
Following her release, the victim sought help at a local fire station, contributing more evidence to the mounting case against Toliaferro, including his belongings found at the crime scene. Despite the continuous efforts to link Toliaferro to these horrific crimes, it was only after his arrest for Jeffries’ murder that the pieces started to fall into place.
In July 2025, investigators discovered a trail of blood leading from Jeffries’ murder scene to a nearby vacant property, where Toliaferro was found injured and apprehended. His DNA eventually linked him to the previous sexual assault cases, which bore similarities in method and location, leading authorities to believe that he was a serial offender.
Comprehensive DNA testing confirmed that Toliaferro’s DNA profile matched that of the evidentiary samples collected in all three unsolved cases. Law enforcement officials are now in the process of preparing for trial proceedings against Toliaferro, who is also facing charges linked to his role in Jeffries’s death.
