The relationships and parenting style of tech mogul Elon Musk have come under scrutiny following revelations made by his ex-wife Justine Wilson in an upcoming documentary. Set to premiere on October 16, the film, directed by Alex Gibney, showcases Wilson’s perspectives on her tumultuous marriage to Musk, who is the father of 14 children.

Wilson, who was married to Musk from 2000 until their divorce in 2008, recounted various alarming experiences during their time together. One of the most striking claims from Wilson is that Musk referred to mothers, including herself, as “breeders.” This remark, she alleges, emphasised Musk’s view that the women in his life were interchangeable when it came to motherhood.
Discussing their wedding day, Wilson revealed Musk’s assertion of dominance in their relationship, claiming he referred to himself as the “alpha” while they were dancing. Candidly, she expressed how her relationship with Musk introduced her to the term “gaslighting,” a manipulation tactic that left her feeling insignificant during their marriage. “I learned the term ‘gaslighting’ through my relationship with Elon,” Wilson said, highlighting the emotional impact of their years together.
The couple share six children, including twins Vivian and Griffin, along with triplets Kai, Saxon, and Damian. Tragically, they also had a son, Nevada Alexander, who died at just 10 weeks old. The documentary addresses not only the impact of their relationship but also the broader implications on their children, particularly Vivian, who has come out as transgender.
In the documentary, Wilson asserts that after Vivian publicly identified as trans, Musk allegedly discontinued her health insurance. Furthermore, she claimed he has made no efforts to reconcile with their daughter. “It’s not in his nature,” Wilson noted, despite Musk reportedly telling her to convey his enduring love for Vivian.
Musk has not participated in the making of the documentary, which he has labelled a “hit piece” on social media platform X, previously known as Twitter. His legal team is reportedly considering legal action against the film’s creators, claiming the documentary is biased and misrepresents his character. Musk’s attorney, Alex Spiro, has argued that their attempts to engage with the filmmakers have been disregarded and accused them of approaching the project with a predetermined narrative.
In a statement, the production company behind the documentary defended the film’s integrity, asserting that Gibney is known for his thorough and factual exploration of influential figures. They emphasised the importance of open debate and examination of powerful individuals, a principle they believe should resonate even with Musk, who has championed himself as a “free speech absolutist.”
In a separate report earlier this year, it was suggested that Musk views his children as a “legion,” a term evoking military connotations from Roman times. Text messages reportedly revealed Musk’s desire to continue expanding his family through surrogacy, indicating a goal of having even more children. His focus on building a large family reflects broader themes surrounding his views on legacy and future, which have also gained media attention.
Musk’s diverse family includes numerous children beyond his relationship with Wilson. Following his marriage, he had children with musician Grimes – a son named X Æ A-12 and two other children, Exa Dark Sideræl and Techno Mechanicus. Furthermore, documents revealed that Musk fathered two children with Shivon Zilis, a Neuralink executive, beginning a trend of expanding his family in unconventional ways.
The revelations made by Wilson in the forthcoming documentary raise profound questions about Musk’s parenting philosophy and relationships. As the film nears its release, audiences are keen to examine the complex dynamics within Musk’s personal life, set against the backdrop of his extensive influence in tech and social avenues. This documentary promises to shine a light on aspects of Musk’s life rarely discussed publicly, stirring considerable anticipation and debate.
