In an inspiring tale of friendship blossoming into family ties, Macy Schmitt and her husband David have gained a unique narrative thanks to the enduring bond between their mothers, Leslie and Alexis. The two women, who have shared a close friendship for a remarkable 25 years, met in Texas when both were expecting their first children.

Leslie and Alexis originally crossed paths at a church, both excitedly anticipating the arrival of their babies. Unbeknownst to them at the time, their friendship would ultimately lead their children down the aisle together. Their first children, Macy and David, were born just two days apart, further intertwining their lives.

Despite relocating to different states—Macy’s family moving from Texas to Washington and Alexis’s family eventually heading to California—the two mothers maintained a close relationship. “I didn’t really see my husband at all growing up, although I did know of him,” Macy, now 24, recalls. “Even with the distance, our mums stayed good friends. His mum would come to Washington to visit us, and my mum would visit them.”
As fate would have it, both Macy and David attended the same college later on. “I already had a crush on him and knew him as the ‘cute family friend,’ but we didn’t know each other well,” she shared. Sparked by their mothers’ encouragement, Alexis suggested that David text Macy, leading to their first date in October 2020. Their relationship blossomed swiftly, with an engagement following in May 2021, culminating in their wedding in December of that year.
Macy looks back fondly on the day David called his mother to share the news of their engagement. “She was so happy but then followed up the congratulations with something along the lines of, ‘David, I want to make sure you’re not doing this for me, don’t feel pressure just because I wanted you to date her,’” Macy recounts with a smile. David reassured his mother, stating, “Mom, I love her. Obviously, I’m not going to marry her just because you want me to.”
Both mothers were thrilled not only by their children’s union but also by the serendipity of it all. “I couldn’t have asked for a better situation because now I know that not only does my mother-in-law like me, she picked me!” Macy reflects.
Recently, the couple announced that they were expecting their first child together, sharing this joyous news in November 2022. They revealed their pregnancy to their parents using a charming baby onesie, and welcomed their daughter, Juliette, in late July 2023.
David’s parents were particularly thrilled, as Juliette marks the first grandchild for them. “They were SO happy for us. They couldn’t wait to be grandparents!” Macy said, emphasising the excitement shared between the two families. Despite the years that have passed and the miles that have separated them, Leslie and Alexis continue to celebrate their enduring friendship, now united by the next generation.
In this heartwarming story, the intertwining of two families through friendship and love illustrates the power of connections that can span both time and distance, culminating in a beautiful shared future.
