Ashe, the singer-songwriter known for her heartfelt lyrics, is set to release her latest album, *The Girl of Your Dreams*, on 16 October. Following a period of personal upheaval, this new musical endeavour reflects a significant shift in her life, showcasing the strength she has found after overcoming adversity.

In 2022, Ashe took time away from her music career to focus on self-healing, following the tragic loss of her brother in 2019 and the breakdown of her first marriage a year earlier. The 33-year-old artist, whose real name is Ashlyn Wilson, expressed that this hiatus was necessary for her to reconnect with her passion for songwriting. “I was feeling really burnt out and lost,” she explained in an exclusive interview. “So, I stepped back and gave myself a chance to fall back in love with music.”

Apart from rediscovering her love for music, Ashe also sought therapeutic support, exploring modalities such as acupuncture and counselling. This journey of self-discovery led her to a powerful realisation of her own resilience. “I’m a tough bitch,” she asserted, highlighting her newfound strength. “I feel like I stepped into a position of strength and power. I feel like the world gets a little scared when women do that.”
Ashe’s forthcoming album is a product of her growth and reflects a sense of fulfilment she had not previously experienced. “I wrote this entire album from a very healed, actualised, fulfilled place. I wasn’t searching to find myself or find love or find my purpose,” she remarked. The album was conceived after her collaboration with finneas on their project, *The Favors*, and coincided with her recent marriage to fellow musician John Clark Canada.
Reflecting on her experiences, Ashe noted the stark contrast between her two weddings. “I was in love and I was reflecting on the best wedding ever and how I had the worst wedding ever the first time,” she recalled, adding a touch of humour about her past where her ex-husband made a scene by smashing cake into her face. Such memories shape the narratives woven throughout her new album.
In August, Ashe unveiled “Stop the Wedding!” as the lead single from *The Girl of Your Dreams*. She describes this track as an “older, wiser sister” to her previous hit, “Moral of the Story.” It captures a sense of liberation and self-awareness, emphasising the theme of empowerment. “It genuinely feels like a grown version of ‘Moral of the Story.’ Like a very liberated, ‘Wait, that didn’t even have to happen at all,’” she explained.
Central to Ashe’s message is her desire to inspire others, particularly young women, to break free from situations that do not serve them. “What if there’s a whole generation of young girls who hear this song and decide they aren’t stuck or they don’t have to go through with something that doesn’t feel right? That could be a wedding, a job, or anything they’ve felt forced into,” she ventured, underscoring her commitment to encouraging autonomy and personal choice.
The title of Ashe’s upcoming album, *The Girl of Your Dreams*, holds deeper significance than initially meets the eye. “It’s sort of a facade, the idea of other people’s perception of you,” she elaborated. Ashe notes how women often find themselves chameleonic, adapting to others’ expectations and projections. This album is intended as a form of shedding these imposed identities, exploring who she might be without the weight of those external views.
Ashe is set to embark on this new chapter with optimism and gratitude, inviting her audience along for the journey. As the release date approaches, anticipation builds for what promises to be a heartfelt and impactful collection of songs that speak to resilience, freedom, and self-actualisation. *The Girl of Your Dreams* will be available on 16 October, and Ashe hopes that her music resonates with listeners and empowers them to take control of their narratives.
