An accident involving stage equipment occurred at Ford Field in Detroit on Saturday, 29 August 2025, during the breakdown process following Ed Sheeran’s concert. The incident was described as a “forklift injury accident,” with emergency services dispatched to the stadium around 11 p.m. The injuries were reportedly sustained near a ramp in a vehicle tunnel, leading to the hospitalisation of all six crew members. Thankfully, none of the injuries were deemed life-threatening, although two individuals were reported to have more serious conditions.

One crew member recounted the chaotic nature of the accident, emphasising how it happened in “a split second.” This sudden event highlights the dangers present during large-scale concert productions, particularly when heavy machinery is in use.
The injured team members were quickly transported to local hospitals for treatment. By Sunday, 30 August, at least one of the injured crew had been discharged after spending the night in hospital. The conditions of the other five crew members were not immediately clear, although all were confirmed to be stable during transport.
Ford Field issued a statement addressing the incident, noting that one of the injured was part of their team. The stadium confirmed that a comprehensive review is underway and that they are cooperating with the necessary authorities as well as the production team involved. “Out of respect for the people involved and the integrity of that review, we will not speculate on the cause,” the statement read. They also expressed their gratitude to the Detroit Fire Department and EMS for their swift response to the situation.
While the accident disrupted the immediate aftermath of the concert, Sheeran continued with his tour schedule. The following night, he made a surprise appearance at the Pokémon World Championships held at the Chase Center in San Francisco. There, he performed “Celestial”, a track from the 2022 Pokémon Scarlet & Violet soundtrack, alongside an acoustic version of the iconic original theme song.
Ed Sheeran is slated to continue his U.S. tour with a performance scheduled for Friday, 4 September at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey. Although the concert experience can often appear seamless to audiences, incidents like the one at Ford Field serve as a reminder of the potential hazards involved in live performance settings.
As investigations into the accident proceed, the focus remains on the health and recovery of the injured crew members. The swift medical response has been credited with ensuring that their conditions, while serious for some, did not escalate into life-threatening situations.
With the tour’s momentum expected to carry on in the coming days, fans are hopeful for an uninterrupted series of performances as they look forward to Sheeran’s continued musical contributions on his current tour.
