Concerns have emerged regarding former Duke basketball player Kyle Singler, who recently shared a series of alarming videos on social media. In these clips, Singler, 38, alleges distressing issues, including claims of being targeted by individuals in his life and expressing discontent towards his former coach, Mike Krzyzewski.

In a video posted on August 25, Singler accused Krzyzewski, who retired in 2022 after a legendary career at Duke, of ignoring his pleas for help. While walking around his home in Oklahoma, Singler expressed feelings of powerlessness and abandonment, stating, “Coach K has set me up. I have no power. I have no house.” He emphasised that his attempts to reach out for support had been disregarded, saying, “I’ve reached out to Coach and he has fully dismissed the message.”
Singler further alleged that he has been the victim of harassment, claiming, “You guys are cutting my power off, breaking into my house, stealing money, ruining my life.” His words paint a troubling picture, revealing his anxiety about his current circumstances.

In another video, he appeared visibly distressed as he stated, “My life’s on the line,” raising alarms about the financial pressures and threats he perceives from his past association with Duke University. “Duke’s all about it. I got Duke begging for my money. Everybody’s after my money, trying to kill me,” he asserted. Singler’s claims suggest that he feels overwhelmed with fear and a sense of being cornered, urging Krzyzewski to take action.

The former athlete expressed feelings of entrapment in his home and stated that he is being watched, stating, “I can’t leave. I feel imprisoned.” His mental state has become a cause for concern, especially considering his previous video messages in which he voiced similar fears.
The NBA Players Association (NBPA) has previously reached out to Singler’s family following his past communications. In November 2024, he made headlines for claiming he was “made into a mental example”, and conveyed a constant fear for his safety. According to Sarah Houseknecht, a spokeswoman for the NBPA, the organisation is in contact with Singler’s family, offering extensive support to all its members during challenging times.
Singler’s history in professional basketball spans from his collegiate success at Duke to his time in the NBA, where he played with the Detroit Pistons and the Oklahoma City Thunder, before concluding his career with two teams in Spain. He was a standout player at Duke, helping lead the Blue Devils to a national championship and earning the Final Four Most Outstanding Player award. He was drafted in 2011 and retired from professional basketball in October 2019.
Despite his achievements, Singler now finds himself in a troubling situation that has alarmed fans and former colleagues alike. The NBPA has not provided any updates regarding its ongoing correspondence with Singler’s family, leaving many to wonder about the former athlete’s well-being.
As awareness around mental health continues to grow, those who experience challenges similar to Singler’s are encouraged to seek help. Locally and internationally, numerous resources are available for individuals facing mental health crises, including helplines and support services.
The unfolding situation with Kyle Singler serves as a reminder of the importance of mental health awareness and support systems, particularly for those transitioning from professional sports. The extent of Singler’s struggles raises significant questions about the reintegration of athletes into society after their careers conclude, emphasising the need for ongoing attention and resources for those in similar circumstances.
