In a harrowing incident that unfolded in the early hours of Sunday morning, a 22-year-old college student was fatally shot by police in Upper Pottsgrove Township, Pennsylvania. The victim, identified as Glenwood Pysher IV, reportedly mistakenly approached the wrong home after a night out with friends and was subsequently confronted by law enforcement.
Emergency services were alerted shortly before 12:30 a.m. following a 911 call reporting a potential attempted break-in at a residence on Snyder Road. Officers arrived at the site and discovered Pysher IV in the rear of the property, leading to an encounter between him and the police, during which shots were fired, resulting in the young man’s death. The Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office confirmed that Pysher IV was struck fatally during this altercation.
Family members have expressed their devastation at the loss. Pysher’s father, Glennwood Pysher Sr., described the events leading up to his son’s death, explaining that the young man had been enjoying a pub crawl with friends the previous evening. The group reportedly moved from one house to another when Pysher IV, feeling disoriented after drinking, accidentally approached a property that was not part of their gathering.
Just moments before the shooting, Pysher IV was on a video call with friends, who realised he was at the wrong location. His father, recounting that fateful moment, said, “They told him, ‘Bubba, you’re at the wrong home.’ He then dropped his location to them, so they could come get him.” Tragically, it was shortly after this call that the police encounter occurred, culminating in the fatal shooting at approximately 12:35 a.m.
In the wake of this tragedy, Pysher Sr. received distressing news from a lieutenant of the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office who visited the family home. “I couldn’t process anything at that point,” he stated, recalling the shock of being informed of his son’s death. “I just asked questions, and he couldn’t give me any answers,” he added, reflecting on the overwhelming grief that his family is now facing.
Describing his son, he shared, “He was trying to get home. He was drunk, but I don’t believe he posed a threat or would have hurt anyone.” The elder Pysher expressed his anger and sorrow, stating, “I get angry, I cry, I just don’t know what to do.” He emphasised a strong desire for accountability, calling for the officer involved in the shooting to no longer serve in law enforcement.
Glenwood Pysher IV had recently celebrated his 22nd birthday on August 10 and was poised to start his senior year as a catcher on the baseball team at St. Elizabeth College in New Jersey. The loss is particularly profound for the family, as he was the eldest among their four children, which includes three daughters.
