Netflix star Trey Plutnicki has married actress Cecilia Iole in a vibrant ceremony held on 22 August in the heart of Chicago. The couple, who first met as performers in 2021, celebrated their union with a wedding themed around a “Chicago garden party.”

The event was attended by about 175 guests, including Plutnicki’s co-stars from the Netflix shows *Squid Game: The Challenge* and *Battle Camp*, among them Shubham Goel and Jessica “Figgy” Figueroa. The couple chose to invite their friends and family to witness the occasion in a city they have grown to love.
In a joint statement to PEOPLE magazine, the newlyweds expressed their desire to show their guests why they fell in love with Chicago, saying, “Neither of us or our families are from Chicago, so we wanted to give everyone an opportunity to see why we fell in love with Chicago — and maybe give them a chance to fall in love themselves.”
The week-long celebration featured an itinerary filled with iconic local experiences, including a Major League Baseball showdown between the Chicago White Sox and the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field. The couple hoped their guests would enjoy the city and even extend their visit.
The wedding was hosted at 167 Events, a picturesque venue located high above the cityscape on the 17th floor of the 167 Green building. Guests were greeted by a stunning floral display in a rainbow of colours, reflecting the couple’s theatrical backgrounds as musical performers.
Plutnicki, aged 29, donned a custom olive-green suit from Indochino, while Iole, 33, wore a strapless gown from Viero Bridal, accompanied by a delicate lace-trimmed veil. As she walked down the aisle to a string rendition of The Beatles’ classic “Here Comes The Sun”, Plutnicki and the wedding party made their entrance to “Dreams” by The Cranberries.
Iole described her gown, saying, “I had tried on quite a few dresses before I tried on this one. I was starting to get worried that I wouldn’t find one that felt exactly like me: romantic, elegant, but with a bit of drama.” It was during her fitting for this dress that she finally felt she had found the perfect match for her vision.
The ceremony itself took place under a stunning floral arch, with the iconic Chicago skyline serving as a backdrop. Family friend Marci Beaudoin officiated the ceremony, during which the couple exchanged handwritten vows. Iole noted that the ceremony was an opportunity to share their commitment with their community, which they intentionally nurtured over the years.
Though already feeling like life partners, Plutnicki expressed that the wedding allowed their loved ones to witness their declaration of love. “Our invitation is asking for their support, and their attendance is an agreement to support,” he explained.
The lively reception was focused on guest enjoyment, and Iole changed into a glitzy silver sequined mini dress for the occasion. The couple shared their first dance to “You’re My Home” by Billy Joel, followed by an evening filled with live music and dancing. Guests enjoyed a delectable menu featuring both a prime New York strip steak option and a vegetarian ratatouille.
For dessert, the newlyweds treated their guests to a lavish four-tiered wedding cake, featuring dual-flavours of almond and lemon, layered with decadent fillings. “The best day ever,” was how the couple described their wedding, and festivities continued with a retreat to a charming bed-and-breakfast in Saugatuck, Michigan.
After the whirlwind wedding, Plutnicki and Iole eagerly anticipate an official honeymoon in Saint Lucia in the new year. Their romance began during the 2021 Utah Shakespeare Festival, where they both performed, culminating in an engagement on 17 April 2025 on a pedestrian bridge in Lincoln Park.
With plans already in motion, Iole mused about the next chapter in their lives together, expressing excitement for what lies ahead. The couple, who enjoy each other’s company immensely, jokingly consider adopting a dog to solidify their bond further.
As they embark on this new journey, the couple reflects on their commitment, perhaps finding even more ways to share their love with friends and family in the future.
