A 21-year-old woman has been arrested and charged with aggravated assault following a violent incident involving her mother in a Chick-fil-A parking lot in Georgia. Shyanniah Ma’Ree Johnson is alleged to have stabbed her mother multiple times during an argument while the pair were on a road trip to Wisconsin.

The confrontation occurred on Thursday, 20 August, when the mother, aged 39, and her daughter exited Interstate 75 and stopped at the fast food outlet in Acworth. According to a statement from the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office, the argument escalated while they were still inside their vehicle, resulting in Johnson allegedly attacking her mother with a knife, inflicting no less than ten stab wounds.
Following the stabbing, the mother managed to escape from the vehicle and ran into the Chick-fil-A seeking help. Staff and patrons inside the restaurant provided immediate assistance until police arrived. Officers from Acworth were on the scene and coordinated with emergency services to transport the injured woman to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital for treatment.
In a twist of events, Johnson reportedly sustained an injury to her leg during the altercation. After the stabbing, she left the parking lot with two children seated in her vehicle. Utilising automated license plate reader technology, law enforcement was able to track her down. Captain Jay Baker of the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office explained that they had only a description of the vehicle initially but were able to engage with their law enforcement partners in the area to apprehend Johnson in Whitfield County.
The children involved in the incident have been confirmed as unharmed. They are now in the care of the Georgia Division of Family and Children Services (DFCS) while investigations continue into the circumstances underlying the assault. Reports indicate that Johnson was apprehended without incident and subsequently taken to Hamilton Medical Center in Dalton for treatment of her leg injury.
Johnson faces charges of aggravated assault under the Family Violence Act. The sheriff’s office has indicated that further charges may be on the horizon as the investigation is still ongoing.
As of now, the mother has been released from the hospital, while her daughter remains hospitalised for her injuries. Authorities continue to examine aspects of the incident to ensure a thorough understanding of what transpired during this alarming case.
