Country music star Justin Moore has recently shared his struggles with alcohol and the steps he has taken to get his life back on track. In an open and honest conversation on the TL’s Road House podcast, the 42-year-old singer candidly discussed the impact that drinking had on his family, career, and personal faith, ultimately leading him to seek rehabilitation.

Moore revealed that it was during the COVID-19 lockdown that his alcohol consumption escalated dramatically. What started as an occasional drink at 5 p.m. shifted to a cocktail at noon, which then turned into an all-day affair. The singer reflected, “It started affecting my life. I was putting so much energy into drinking that it took away not only from my professionalism but, most importantly, from my family and church.”

The call to seek help arrived after friends expressed their concern for him about a year ago. Yet, he admitted he was not ready to accept their feedback at the time. “Everybody grew up except me. I was hanging on by a thread,” Moore confessed. It was a pivotal moment after a Sunday church service that prompted him to approach his wife, Kate, and declare that he needed assistance. He described his decision to enter rehab as treating it like a “business trip,” underscoring the seriousness of his commitment to change.
Since completing a month-long rehabilitation programme, Moore has been sober for 65 days and feels a renewed sense of self. “I feel like myself for the first time in a while. I’m actually proud of myself for the first time in a while,” he stated. This newfound clarity has allowed him to reflect on the pressures of being in the entertainment industry, where alcohol can often be intertwined with celebrations and public appearances. “This business functions a lot around alcohol. It almost becomes expected for us to engage in that type of activity,” he noted.
In early June, Moore took to Instagram to announce his break from touring, labelling it a “right decision” for him and his family. His transparency continued during a concert in Knoxville, Illinois, on July 9, where he disclosed his recent 30-day rehabilitation stint. “My drinking got out of control,” he admitted to the audience, acknowledging the disappointment he felt in letting down his band and crew, as well as his family and faith.
“I just became a complete dumbass,” he said, before emphasising his determination to lead a better life for himself and his children. As a father to four young ones—Ella, 16, Kennedy, 14, Rebecca, 12, and South, 9—Moore expressed his commitment to set a positive example moving forward. “I’m gonna try to help as many people from this point forward until my last days on earth,” he explained.
In Moore’s narrative, there is a relatable struggle many face, particularly in high-pressure environments where coping mechanisms such as alcohol can become all too familiar. His journey highlights the significance of self-awareness and the courage required to confront personal demons.
The singer’s experience resonates with countless others grappling with similar challenges and serves as a reminder of the importance of prioritising health and wellbeing above all else. As he continues to navigate the path of sobriety, Moore’s story may inspire those who find themselves in a similar position—reminding them that seeking help is a sign of strength, not weakness.
With a renewed perspective, Justin Moore is not just returning to music but also stepping into a role model position, showcasing the power of resilience and the capability to overcome adversity. As he looks forward to the future, the country star is ready to embrace his new life, grounded in sobriety and family.
