Sonic Drive-In is set to welcome autumn enthusiasts with its newly launched beverage lineup, aptly named “Hotumn,” that aims to capture the essence of fall even amidst warm summer temperatures. This exciting campaign features refreshing iced drinks inspired by traditional autumn flavours, including cherry pie and cranberry, which will be available from 24 August across participating locations and through the Sonic app.

The “Hotumn” drinks are designed to resonate with customers feeling the early pull of autumn despite the lingering heat of summer. In recent years, social media has dubbed late August as “Augtober,” reflecting the growing appetite for seasonal flavours well ahead of the official start of autumn. To this end, Sonic has crafted an imaginative selection of beverages that combine the tastes of iconic autumn treats with refreshing iced versions to keep customers cool.
Among the four unique offerings in the “Hotumn” lineup is the Cherry Pie, composed of cherry and vanilla flavours mixed with Coca-Cola and topped with a cherry. Sonic has also introduced the Blueberry Pie, which features a delightful combination of blueberry purée, vanilla, and sweet cream blended with Dr Pepper.
The third drink in the collection, Harvest Berry, includes a mixture of wildberry purée, cranberry, and vanilla flavours infused with Sprite, while the Cranberry Orchard Sweet Tea adds a seasonal twist to classic sweet tea by incorporating peach purée and cranberry for a refreshing taste. Each beverage promises to deliver a taste of autumn while remaining cool and invigorating.
To further promote the “Hotumn” campaign, Sonic has partnered with Caitlin Covington, a popular influencer known as Christian Autumn Girl, celebrated for her seasonal photo shoots. In promotional material released by Sonic, Covington, along with her friends dressed in autumnal attire, attempts to embrace the fall spirit. However, the backdrop of their warm-day shoot showcases the irony of the situation as temperatures soar.
Sipping on a Sonic drink while capturing the essence of autumn, Covington remarked, “There is no way I could drink a hot spiced latte right now. It’s like 95 degrees out. But mentally, it’s autumn. It’s ‘Hotumn.’” Her sentiments encapsulate the concept Sonic aims to deliver: enjoying the flavours of the season irrespective of weather conditions.
Ryan Dickerson, Chief Marketing Officer at Sonic, remarked on the innovative approach the fast-food chain is taking. He noted that Sonic has always provided a variety of customizable drinks and recognised an opportunity to inject some fun into the fall beverage scene. “In many parts of the country, it’s still way too hot for a steaming latte,” Dickerson explained. He pointed out that the “Hotumn” drinks reflect Sonic’s playful take on what a fall drink can be, catering to a desire for autumn comfort without sacrificing refreshment.
The launch of Sonic’s new drink offerings not only aligns with seasonal cravings but also encourages customers to indulge in the spirit of fall, regardless of the weather. The “Hotumn” drinks are poised to capture the imagination of consumers looking to savour the tastes associated with the season long before the leaves start to change.
As Sonic serves up its refreshing flavours, the company hopes to provide a unique experience that encourages customers to cherish the essence of autumn while enjoying summer’s warmth. The “Hotumn” lineup officially becomes available nationwide on 24 August, inviting all to partake in the delightful flavours of the season early.
With its creative approach, Sonic continues to emphasise the importance of seasonal traditions while adapting to the changing tastes of consumers, making the “Hotumn” initiative an enticing addition to their well-loved beverage selections.
