An emotional reunion took place recently in Ohio, where a hound mix named Timber was joyfully reunited with his owner, Dylan Reedy, after more than eight months apart. The journey to this heartwarming moment began when Timber, known as Flash while in the care of the Animal Friends Humane Society, went missing from Reedy’s home in late November 2025.

Reedy had raised Timber since he was just five weeks old, and his sudden disappearance left him devastated. Unable to comprehend how his beloved pet managed to escape, Reedy searched tirelessly during the initial days, which quickly turned into weeks and then months. As time progressed, despair began to set in, and Reedy feared he might never see Timber again.
However, fate intervened shortly after Timber went missing. On November 28, just one day subsequent to his disappearance, Timber was discovered as a stray animal almost 90 minutes away from home. He was taken in by the Animal Friends Humane Society, and upon arrival was found to have sustained a severe laceration on his leg. The staff at the shelter dedicated themselves to caring for him, and he was given the temporary name Flash.
Once Timber’s stray hold period concluded, he was placed in a foster home where he could receive the additional medical attention required for his recovery. After approximately a month, during which he healed, Timber returned to the shelter. Unfortunately, his journey did not end there—he spent an astonishing 220 days waiting in the kennel for a new family to adopt him.
During his extended stay at the shelter, Timber became well-liked among the staff and volunteers. The Animal Friends Humane Society shared on their Facebook page that he enjoyed his time at the shelter, going on walks, participating in playgroups, and soaking up affection from those who visited. Despite his lovable nature, adoption prospects seemed bleak as potential adopters frequently passed him by in favour of other dogs, often stopping only to offer him a treat.
One significant day changed the course of Timber’s story. A generous supporter of the shelter, known as Ferg, visited to make a donation and captured a photo of Timber to showcase the dogs in need of homes. That photo turned out to be a pivotal moment, as it caught the attention of Reedy’s girlfriend. She recognised the distinct markings and features of Timber in the picture and promptly reached out to Ferg, expressing her belief that the dog was indeed Reedy’s long-lost pet.
Ferg swiftly arranged a meeting at the shelter, where Reedy could come to identify Timber. The moment of reunion was heartwarming; as soon as Timber spotted his owner, his joy was unmistakable. The Animal Friends Humane Society reported that Timber’s tail was wagging furiously, indicating his excitement. The emotional moment was filled with joyful tears, enthusiastic kisses, and a happiness that resonated throughout the shelter.
Reflecting on Timber’s extended stay, the shelter remarked, “Now we know why Timber spent 250 days with us. He wasn’t waiting to be adopted. He was waiting to be reunited with his family.” This heartfelt reunion has not only marked the end of a long separation but has also reinforced the deep bond between a dog and his owner.
