A nine-year-old boy named Jaxon Green from Tamaqua, Pennsylvania, has taken on a significant role in a campaign aimed at raising awareness and promoting inclusivity for children who are tube-fed. Teaming up with the beloved children’s character Elmo, Jaxon features in the new song video titled “What Is Better Than How,” produced by the tube feeding nutrition brand Compleat.

Jaxon, who was born with Eagle-Barrett Syndrome, has faced numerous health challenges throughout his young life. His condition necessitated a kidney transplant and continuous peritoneal dialysis beginning when he was just six months old. His mother, Amy Green, explained that children undergoing this form of treatment often lose their appetite due to accumulated toxins in their bodies and fluid retention. Consequently, Jaxon stopped eating solid foods at around four months and transitioned to tube feeding to ensure he receives adequate nourishment.

The new campaign video, featuring Jaxon and Elmo, is designed to convey a powerful message about acceptance and understanding of diverse dietary needs among children. In a heartwarming exchange, Elmo invites Jaxon to share a meal, to which Amy clarifies that Jaxon receives his nutrition through a feeding tube. The video promotes the idea that how children receive their nourishment doesn’t affect their worth or identity, ultimately highlighting the importance of contentment and care in the eating process.
After discovering the casting call for the video while searching for auditions for Jaxon’s sister, Amy believed Jaxon might resonate with the project. Initially hesitant, Jaxon ultimately decided he wanted to participate to demonstrate to others that it is perfectly fine to be different. He stated, “People are making fun of me… and I wanted to show everyone that it’s okay.” His proactive choice to join the campaign is a significant step in fostering awareness among his peers and addressing the misconceptions surrounding tube feeding.
Jaxon expressed his hope that his friends would learn from the campaign that differing methods of eating should not determine how they treat one another. While the support from Jaxon’s teachers and school staff has created a positive environment, he has still faced challenges with understanding among some children, particularly as they begin to notice his feeding tube and medical arrangements.
The campaign not only aims to uplift Jaxon but also strives to advocate for all individuals with feeding tubes, ensuring they feel accepted and validated. Amy emphasised the need for this awareness, asserting, “There is nothing different about Jaxon as a person.” She notes that the common misconception surrounding feeding tubes is that they indicate fragility, when in fact, Jaxon embodies resilience and athleticism, actively participating in a variety of sports such as soccer, basketball, and swimming.
Post-filming, Jaxon expressed a newfound confidence about returning to school, eager for upcoming STEM and music classes. His enthusiasm about learning to play an instrument reflects his passion for the performing arts, and he intends to pursue more acting opportunities, with or without Elmo.
As the campaign unfolds, it seeks to bridge the gap between children with differing dietary needs and those without, fostering an inclusive atmosphere where everyone understands that whilst the way they nourish themselves may vary, their intrinsic value remains constant. Through Jaxon’s role in this initiative, the message of acceptance will continue to resonate, encouraging children everywhere to embrace their differences and support one another.
