During a recent appearance on “Today with Jenna & Sheinelle,” Sudeikis was prompted about the beloved biscuits when host Jenna Bush Hager gifted him some for a segment. After expressing hope that Sudeikis would enjoy these biscuits as much as Ted does, he responded candidly, saying, “Yeah, I mean, you would have to ask Hannah [Waddingham]. I’ve never actually had them.”
Despite playing a character known for his fondness of the biscuits, Sudeikis admitted he has no curiosity about his fictional creation. When asked if he had ever felt inclined to try one, he jokingly stated, “I’m not biscuit curious, no.”
Hannah Waddingham, who portrays Rebecca Welton, the president of the fictional soccer club at the show’s centre, has a more hands-on experience with the biscuits. In a previous interview with Jimmy Kimmel in 2021, she discussed how the biscuits improved significantly in the show’s second season after she raised concerns over their quality. Waddingham commented, “Any biscuit is better than the season 1 biscuit. Although, the ones from season 2, I think because I’ve complained about them so greatly, they’ve added a lot of butter and a lot of sugar, and that’s always going to make things better.”
Waddingham’s character’s love for the biscuits has added depth to her portrayal. She took the creative liberty of making Rebecca an emotional eater, often indulging in the homemade treats during filming. “Season 1 was meant to be eating the biscuits because – spoiler alert – Ted’s making them,” she explained. “But they didn’t expect me to go at them like a truffle hound because I decided that Rebecca should be, like, an emotional eater.”
Interestingly, Waddingham bypassed the usual practice of using a spit bucket when filming scenes with the biscuits. Instead, she opted to eat them, embracing the character’s fervour for the treats. “At the end of the take, they’d be like, ‘Do you want a spit bucket?’ And I’d be like, ‘No, that’s very inelegant,’” she recalled. Her enthusiasm for the biscuits inadvertently added a memorable layer to her character, as she continually indulged throughout filming.
As “Ted Lasso” continues to gain popularity, the fourth season is currently available for streaming on Apple TV+ with new episodes released every Wednesday.
