Taylor Dayne, the renowned pop singer best known for her hit “Tell It to My Heart,” has opened up about her journey since being diagnosed with stage 2 colon cancer. In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE, she reveals that she is now “all clean” and feels healthier than ever, four years after her initial diagnosis.

The 64-year-old artist announced her cancer battle privately in 2022 and has since made it her mission to advocate for early detection, particularly among women. Dayne emphasises the need for regular screenings, highlighting that she had no noticeable symptoms prior to her diagnosis. “I go back very biannually for a colonoscopy and I will go soon enough,” Dayne shared, expressing a confident outlook on her health.
In the aftermath of her treatment, Dayne is more committed than ever to her wellbeing. “I work very hard now on maintaining my health. It has become paramount,” she stated. The singer’s experience has not only affected her health routine but also reshaped her perspective on life and performance. “I really became such an advocate on early detection for women,” she explained, encouraging younger generations to prioritise preventive measures.

Dayne’s approach to her diagnosis is grounded in urgency. She stresses that early detection can literally be a lifesaver: “Early detection will save your life, number one,” she asserted. Her personal experiences have made her acutely aware of the aggressive nature of colon cancer, pointing out that many others have succumbed to the disease within mere months following a diagnosis.

The singer’s surprising lack of symptoms prior to her cancer diagnosis has strengthened her belief in the importance of routine screenings. “It was a shock when I was first diagnosed. I had nothing,” Dayne remarked. This realisation led her to advise others to be proactive about their health. “Be your own warrior. You must understand that you have to take charge of your own health,” she encouraged, likening health management to being one’s own general or soldier.
The impact of her cancer journey transcends health awareness; it has fundamentally altered how Dayne connects with her audience. She is set to embark on her first residency at Harrah’s Las Vegas, a venture that she describes as profoundly fulfilling. “When you carry the story of trauma and survival within you, you have a different awareness of what life really means,” Dayne explained, indicating that her experiences have deepened her emotional connection with her fans.
Initially, Dayne was hesitant to share her story publicly. “I didn’t at first. I just couldn’t believe people were interested in this story,” she confessed. However, returning to the stage became a pivotal part of her healing process. “The greatest thing I could have done for myself was walk and crawl back on stage to talk to the people that have given me so much,” she reflected, acknowledging the profound support she received from her audience.
Now, each performance feels profoundly personal for Dayne. “I saw every individual in the audience,” she noted, expressing gratitude for the intimate connection shared with her fans. “It doesn’t matter if it’s 2,000 or 1,050 people; it becomes this very intimate relationship, and every moment matters and counts.”
Taylor Dayne’s Las Vegas residency, titled “Tell It to My Heart,” is set to launch on November 24 and will run until January 2. Tickets will go on sale on July 31, offering fans a chance to experience the artist live and engage with her remarkable journey of resilience and advocacy.
