The breakup, which she described as devastating and humiliating, unfolded after several days of silence from O’Connell, whom she had been trying to contact out of concern for his wellbeing.

“I hadn’t seen Jerry for five days, and he wasn’t picking up my calls. I was genuinely worried about him,” Rancic explained. “In the end, I told him, ‘I’m going to call the police.’ That’s when he replied to me, saying, ‘Do not call the police. I just got back to L.A. and I’m at my condominium.’” She went on to say she felt compelled to see him and headed over, unaware of the emotional turmoil awaiting her.

Rancic’s memory of their last conversation was vivid, noting that their exchange began via intercom. According to her, O’Connell’s choice to speak to her from the balcony instead of face-to-face was emblematic of his reluctance to engage directly. “He didn’t have enough courage to come down to face me in person, and instead, he broke up with me from a distance,” she lamented.
