Alix Earle, the founder of Reale Actives and prominent social media influencer, has recently opened up about her long-standing battle with acne. In a candid Instagram post, the 25-year-old shared a retrospective of her skin journey, featuring unfiltered photos and detailed accounts of her experiences dating back to 2019.

The journey began for Earle shortly before she started university, during a time when acne was a significant source of insecurity. In her first photo from June 2019, she showcased the blemishes that plagued her left cheek and jawline while revealing that she had started her first course of Accutane, hoping for a solution to her skin woes. “Skincare always felt really confusing to me,” she admitted, conveying her struggle with self-acceptance during what should have been an exciting transition to college.
Fast forward to July 2022, and Earle shared a picture taken just before she embarked on her third round of Accutane. Despite the medication initially clearing her skin, she noted that her breakouts returned with a vengeance, often leaving her feeling despondent and reluctant to leave her home. “I didn’t want to leave the house, it was painful,” she said, capturing the emotional toll that severe acne can have on an individual.
Despite her best efforts, Earle’s experiences with Accutane proved to be a rollercoaster of hope and disappointment. Within a year, she found herself feeling discouraged again, as her acne persisted despite utilising different treatments, including bi-weekly facials and the oral medication Spironolactone. “I felt frustrated and like the only one who couldn’t figure out my skin at age 23,” she reflected, a sentiment many who have struggled with acne can relate to.
As she navigated these challenges, Earle began developing her skincare line, Reale Actives, in collaboration with dermatologist Dr Kiran Mian. The intention behind the brand was to create a straightforward, four-step routine tailored to address the common issues faced by individuals with acne-prone skin. Earle expressed hopes that her experience would help others feel more informed and empowered in their skincare journeys.
By April 2025, the formulas from Reale Actives were ready for testing, and Earle was optimistic about her skin’s improvement. She revealed that, after a year of employing her new routine, she saw significant progress in her complexion. “I started to have faith in our products working,” she noted in July 2025. This marked a turning point for Earle, as her skin finally seemed to be headed in the right direction, allowing her to enjoy life without being overshadowed by skincare concerns.
Earle went on to discuss her desire for a routine that would allow her to live her life freely, even amidst the pressures of public appearances and performances, such as her stint on “Dancing With the Stars.” She eloquently articulated a common desire among those with skin issues: to find a balance between skincare and quality of life. “I wanted to build a routine that would allow me to go out and live my life as opposed to changing my life for my skin,” she said.
Despite her positive renovation, Earle’s journey has not been without scrutiny. Following the launch of Reale Actives in March 2026, Earle faced mixed reviews online, as some questioned her credibility due to her history with prescription medications. Addressing these concerns, she expressed her views in a TikTok video, clarifying that while her experiences with Accutane were part of her journey, it does not undermine the efficacy of her skincare line.
In her response, Earle encouraged her followers to consider their individual skincare needs while also highlighting the potential benefits that Reale Actives could offer. “If you believe me, you believe me. If you don’t, whatever,” she concluded, striking a determined tone that resonates with her followers who appreciate her authenticity and candour.
Earle’s openness about her struggles has proved both relatable and inspiring for many, showcasing the complexities of skin health and the pursuit of clear skin. As she continues to evolve her skincare brand and platform, her story serves as a powerful reminder that behind every social media presence, there can be a journey filled with challenges and triumphs.
