Wells, 18, was reported missing after leaving his phone on a boat while he stayed at the party. His body was discovered two days later on July 6, sparking concern and speculation among his family and friends. They believe that the circumstances surrounding his death may indicate a cover-up, as Wells’ parents, Christine and Elmore Wonsley, question why their son would leave his phone behind if he intended to remain at the party.
Authorities initially assessed the situation, indicating that they did not find evidence of foul play and suggested that Wells might have drowned. This conclusion was met with scepticism from Wells’ family, who feel that race could be a factor in how the case is being handled. Ben Crump, the family’s attorney, raised questions about the logic behind a teenager leaving their phone behind, stating, “What teenager wouldn’t take their phone?”
In the latest segment of his interview with conservative commentator Brandon Tatum, Hudson reiterated the view expressed by several attendees at the party that it was common practice for guests to leave their phones on the boat to protect them from potential water damage. “Nolan wasn’t the only person that left a phone on the boat. There were a lot of people that left phones on the boat,” Hudson explained, suggesting this was a collective decision among the partygoers.
After the festivities concluded, Hudson mentioned that he and friends returned to a friend’s home in the early hours of July 5. It was then that Jayvon Williams’ mother, a fellow attendee, arrived demanding Wells’ phone. Hudson recalled the dramatic scene, stating, “The group was losing it and going crazy… [they] demanded Nolan’s phone.” Despite the urgency of the situation, Hudson insisted that they merely complied without any confrontation.
He elaborated that during the time leading up to the phone being handed over, the group was focused on other matters. “I mean, we didn’t think anything of it,” he said, reflecting on the moment they handed the phone to Williams’ mother. Hudson’s account of the interaction was clear: they did not engage with the phone in any way other than transferring it to Williams’ mother.
Concerned about Wells’ welfare after they realised he wasn’t in communication with anyone, Hudson reached out to Wells’ mother, who also reported a lack of communication from her son. Following this, he contacted the Coast Guard to report Wells missing.
Wells’ parents have since expressed confusion over the lack of content on their son’s phone from the day of the party, leading them to suspect that there might be more to the story than initially revealed. Their concerns point towards a potential cover-up, particularly given the tragic circumstances of their son’s disappearance and subsequent death.
Throughout the interview, Hudson asserted that he and his friends did not tamper with Wells’ phone in any manner. “There’s multiple phones on the boat… Why would our concern be getting on Nolan’s phone?” Hudson questioned, emphasising that none of them even knew his passcode. He reaffirmed that the only time the phone was touched was during its transfer to Williams’ mother.
When pressed about the possibility of someone accessing Wells’ phone and deleting any information, Hudson was unequivocal. “Absolutely not,” he stated, indicating there was no motivation for any kind of mischief. “We have had no reason to delete anything, and we never did,” he insisted.
