Brian Austin Green, the well-known actor famed for his role in *Beverly Hills, 90210*, recently opened up about how therapy has transformed his approach to relationships following the end of his long marriage to actress Megan Fox. In a candid conversation on the I Do, Part 2 podcast, Green reflected on the motivations behind his relationship choices and the lessons he learned in the wake of his divorce.

Green shared that his nearly 15-year partnership with Fox, including ten years of marriage, was often fuelled by physical attraction rather than emotional connection. “I led with physical attraction,” he admitted. The star described how his past relationships typically began with a strong chemistry that gradually morphed into something deeper, but he has since recognised the limitations of this approach.
After his marriage ended in 2020, Green faced a significant life transition. As a newly single parent of three children, he sought therapy to gain insight into his past relational patterns. Through this process, he realised the importance of establishing friendships as the foundation for romantic relationships. “I was divorced, which I didn’t expect,” Green stated. “I had three kids, was a single parent, and I knew that I didn’t want to repeat things that I had done.”

Now in a relationship with Sharna Burgess, a professional dancer from *Dancing with the Stars*, Green has embraced a different strategy. He revealed that their connection blossomed from a genuine friendship that preceded any romantic involvement. “We were really, really good, easy, natural friends to begin with,” he explained. This initial friendship allowed them to communicate openly, building trust and strength in their relationship.
Green elaborated that starting a relationship with friendship has significant advantages. “When you start from a place of a genuine connection with someone, then you’re not so concerned about whether they are truly into you or not,” he said. This level of transparency, according to Green, reduces the anxiety that often accompanies new romantic connections.
The couple’s early conversations were not just playful banter; they delved deep into discussing their strengths and weaknesses. Green said, “Sharna and I talked about our best qualities and our worst qualities together. We sort of put it all out on the table.” This honest dialogue set a solid foundation, which he believes is crucial for a lasting relationship.
Furthermore, the actor cautioned against relationships built mainly on physical attraction. He noted that such connections often struggle to endure over time. “Your approach to a relationship is the best way to know if it’s just a purely physical connection,” he explained, warning that such ties can diminish, leading to dissatisfaction.
For Green and Burgess, continued openness has become a hallmark of their relationship. “To me, a healthy relationship… everything’s open,” he stated, emphasising the significance of honesty and clear communication. In their time together, they have established a rapport that allows them to navigate the complexities of coupledom effectively.
Having first crossed paths on the set of *Hope & Faith* in 2004 and getting married in 2010, Green and Fox share three sons together: Noah, Bodhi, and Journey. Their divorce was officially filed by Fox in November 2020. Both individuals have since moved on; Green is now engaged to Burgess and has a son named Zane with her, whilst Fox shares a daughter named Saga Blade with her partner Colson Baker, known as Machine Gun Kelly.
Green and Burgess confirmed their relationship on Instagram in January 2021 after being introduced by a mutual business associate. Their romance deepened as they both competed on *Dancing with the Stars* in its 30th season, and in June 2022, they celebrated the arrival of their son.
As Green continues to navigate the landscape of love, his experiences highlight a transformative journey toward understanding the core elements that make relationships thrive. By prioritising friendship and openness, he aims to cultivate a healthier, more resilient partnership with Burgess, illustrating the possibility of growth even after heartbreak.
