Rising alt-pop sensation Whitney Woerz, better known by her stage name Whitney Whitney, is poised to make her mark once again with the release of her new single, “All That It Is.” The track, which she describes as a potent exploration of heartbreak and resilience, is accompanied by a music video featuring her beloved cat Tuna—an emotional support figure throughout her tumultuous journey.

Whitney Whitney, 25, candidly reflects on the harrowing experience of losing her voice two and a half years ago. This loss occurred at a critical juncture in her career, shortly after she signed with Atlantic Records. The promising singer found herself grappling with a disheartening vocal injury that severely impacted her ability to perform. “Losing my voice was a painful and long process,” she told PEOPLE. “There was nothing that solely caused it, but it was a drawn-out downhill slope.”
The Connecticut native had been deeply immersed in her craft, spending up to 12 hours a day writing and recording in the studio. As the pain intensified, she attempted to conceal her struggles to maintain her newfound opportunities. “Who wants to sign a singer who can’t sing?” she remarked, highlighting the stigma attached to vocal limitations within the music industry.
Fortunately, after securing her contract with Atlantic Records, Whitney found the courage to share her condition with her team. “They’ve stuck by me every step of the way,” she explained, emphasising the rarity of such support within a major label context. While she had managed to record all 16 tracks for her upcoming album prior to her injury, the journey to recovery was anything but straightforward. Despite undergoing vocal surgery, her voice did not return to its former strength, a reality she has had to navigate over the past couple of years.
The new single “All That It Is” comes as a significant milestone in Whitney’s career. The emotive power ballad reflects her own experiences of heartbreak, shaped by her co-writer’s recent breakup. “I channelled my past heartbreak into her current hurt, and the song was born,” she explained. While her personal romantic struggles are currently difficult to express due to her vocal limitations, she sees this anthem as a way to process her feelings.
The accompanying music video, which PEOPLE has the exclusive premiere of, is directed by Paige Sara and Claudia Chiossone, and features Whitney giving a stirring performance while cradling Tuna. “I wanted to portray myself pretending to hold it together through all the stages of a major crash out,” she notes. The visual narrative seeks to convey the facade many put on in the face of adversity, emphasising that even in moments of pain, we often strive to appear unaffected.
Having Tuna by her side was particularly meaningful to Whitney, as the cat represents her emotional support during her toughest times. “I wanted the visual to showcase how we try to convince ourselves and others that hard things don’t shatter us,” she explained, underscoring the struggles of maintaining composure amid personal turmoil.
Looking ahead, Whitney is gearing up for her highly anticipated festival debut at Lollapalooza in Chicago on 31 July. The opportunity is especially poignant for her, given the challenges she has faced in recent years. “It was, and still is, mentally very hard putting out the songs I love so much and not being able to sing them,” she admitted. “I’ve had to say ‘no’ to so many opportunities and tours that I’ve always dreamed about, but I’ll never give up. I believe more opportunities will come when I’m healed.”
Whitney Whitney’s new single, “All That It Is,” stands as not only a testament to her artistic journey but also a reflection of her resilience. As she prepares to share her story with wider audiences, fans can expect a raw and genuine portrayal of her experiences through her music. This latest chapter in her career represents not just a comeback, but a reaffirmation of her passion for crafting poignant, relatable songs that resonate deeply with listeners.
