Vlad Skuridin described the moment the lightning struck, recalling a “super gigantic boom” that startled him. At the time, he was engaged in his favourite pastime on the computer, but the unexpected thunder caused him to jump in fear. Skuridin described how he felt a sudden shock after his body made contact with a metal part of his desk, which was connected to electrical currents that surged through the house following the strike.

“I got a shock on my stomach, so I just started screaming,” Skuridin stated, explaining the frightening sensation that overcame him. In the immediate aftermath, he reported feeling a tightness in his chest. His father quickly intervened, instructing him to lie down and seeking medical assistance, as concern grew over the effects of the electric shock.
In a later interview, Skuridin reflected on the terrifying ordeal, admitting, “It was crazy. I honestly thought I was gonna die. I did not think I was going to survive that.” In a stroke of luck, he did not require hospital treatment following the incident, although he did experience feelings of dizziness and shock before eventually feeling better.
Skuridin acknowledged that while he was aware of the dangers posed by lightning, he never anticipated that such an event would happen to him personally. “I did know that it could happen, but didn’t really think it could happen to me,” he remarked, expressing disbelief at his close encounter with a lightning strike.
The aftermath of the lightning strike also revealed considerable damage to the family’s home. According to reports, the lightning affected both the gas and water lines, and it implicated a small fire in the attic. The intensity of the lightning caused electrical currents to surge through the wiring, creating hazardous conditions within the house.
Local authorities, including Mark Herman, the Harris County Constable for Precinct 4, shared details of the incident on social media and emphasised the importance of safety during thunderstorms. They warned residents to refrain from using corded electronics and to avoid contact with electrical wiring and plumbing during severe weather.
Herman’s reminders serve as a crucial warning, especially as thunderstorms can pose significant risks to household safety. Despite the unfortunate circumstances, the Skuridin family is grateful that this incident did not lead to more severe consequences.
As Skuridin continues to process the reality of what transpired that day, he hopes that by sharing his experience, he can raise awareness about the dangers of thunderstorms and lightning strikes. His story serves as a poignant reminder of nature’s unpredictable power and the importance of safety preparedness during adverse weather conditions.
Ultimately, thanks to the quick thinking of his father and some luck, Skuridin emerged from the situation relatively unscathed. As summer storms become more frequent, his experience stands as a vital narrative stressing the need for caution when thunderstorms roll in.
