**Man Arrested for Allegedly Abusing Corpse of Deceased Wife**

A 59-year-old man from Kentucky has been arrested following allegations that he kept the body of his deceased wife in their home for several months. John Emrich faces charges of corpse abuse in connection with the death of his wife, Veronica, who was 61 years old at the time of her passing.

Authorities became involved after a niece of Veronica raised concerns about her aunt’s well-being. According to police reports, the niece had not spoken to her aunt since January and had attempted to reach out multiple times without success. Frustrated by the lack of communication, she contacted the Hardin County Sheriff’s Office on June 17 to report her concerns.

Hardin County Sheriff John Ward explained that deputies initially tried to make contact at the Emrich residence in Radcliff but were unable to elicit a response at the door. Sheriff Ward noted that, due to the circumstances at the time, there wasn’t enough information to justify forcing entry into the home.

The following day, with the niece’s assistance, law enforcement officials returned to the home on Homestead Avenue. This time, the niece entered the residence, where Emrich allegedly directed her to where Veronica’s body was located.

According to Sheriff Ward, Veronica was found lying on the couch, covered in blankets. It was later determined that she had been deceased since February, with Emrich reportedly choosing to keep her remains in the home for months.

In the aftermath of the discovery, Emrich allegedly indicated that he did not want to live without his wife. Moreover, he confessed to using laundry detergent as an attempt to mask the odour emanating from her body.

As the investigation continued, Sheriff Ward stated that the case was still ongoing and that there could potentially be further charges against Emrich. Preliminary findings from the coroner’s office suggested that Veronica’s death appeared to be due to natural causes.

Emrich was formally arraigned on June 22, during which the judge set a cash bond of £4,100 (or $5,000) for his release. Currently, he remains incarcerated at the Hardin County Detention Center as the investigation unfolds.
